It has long been suspected that alkaloids are present as tannates in the plant tissue. I would like to share with you the following:
Pharmacognosy and Pharmacobiotechnology, 2nd ed. by Ashutosh Kar wrote:Salts of Alkaloids: It has been found that a plethora of alkaloids occurring in various plant species
are in the form of salts of organic acids, such as: acetic acid, malic acid, oxalic acid, succinic acid,
tartaric acid, tannic acid or some other specific plant acids.
