Hello Nexus!

I have a quick question. I brewed some ayahuasca (vine only) the other day, and since I've never done a harmala extraction, I decided to use my leftovers for it. After I finished my nine hour brew, I used Gibran2's tek to extract the alkaloids. I used a total of 450g caapi in my brew, and my harmala yield is about 12.5-13g. This seems strangely high to me, especially after brewing the same vine that I then extracted from.

Although I did use a lot of vine, this amount just makes me curious. I also use lime instead of lye, so I'm wondering if that has something to do with my awesomely huge yield.

Thanks for any replies! FWIW, the harmalas I have are white and very "chalky" in texture.

Well lime is slightly soluble in water. Meaning If you used too much lime chances are a lot of your yield is lime.

Try melting a little bit of your product on some aluminum foil.if a large portion of it remains unburned, or doesn't melt chances are what you have is a lot of lime. Although this is not a definitive test, this could be a good starting point.
It's been fun. Thanks for all the wisdom.

Thank you for your reply!

I tried your test and I very well may have 12g of lime. Nothing really melted when heated with both a bic and torch lighter. I sprinkled some into a smoking mix last night and found very little effect added.

Yes that is what I assumed, hopefully you saved the solution. If you have KOH or NaOH I would recommend trying to basify the liquid. To be completely honest, I strongly suggest stay away from the 'teks' that use Lime. Lime is kind of bunk for the reason you have observed. KOH or NaOH will easily and readily dissolve in water.
It's been fun. Thanks for all the wisdom.
