Like many others, I've been coming back to this site again and again; more recently lurking and absorbing the wealth of information it and everyone here, has to provide! Thank you for creating such a wonderful and active community!

Shamanism and ayahuasca, as well as DMT and other psychedelics have held my interest for a while. I have dabbled some with cannabis, mushrooms, and lsd, but not enough to claim I'm very experienced with them.

I want to begin working with spice, and eventually ayahuasca. There are some things about myself I know I need to face, some emotional and spiritual obstacles I need to overcome, and it is for that reason I am both looking forward to the experience and somewhat fearful of it (as I feel I will be dealing with fear then). But I am hopeful too that as an artist, I might find new and powerful inspiration from it.

Over the last few days I had a sort of spark of productivity and actually tried my first DMT extraction using Q21Q21's A/B lime tek. Here's a brief overview of how it went:

I used tek 2 with 80g MHRB, did 3 pulls and left them overnight and half a day to freeze precipitate. The second pull yielded the most, the third was the smallest. I unfortunately was not able to do a 4th pull the next day; but I did get to relearn some things from my glassblowing class

I used a 1 quart mason jar to mix everything in, which worked fine for the initial 3 pulls, as the chemical reaction had sufficiently warmed it to prevent heat shock when exposed to the near boiling water in the surrounding bowl. When I went to do the 4th pull though, the jar was cool and so I ended up with "pop" "crack" and a pile of mimosa mud and a jar without a bottom.

I did save all of my naptha (I used a fresh batch for each pull) and I am in the process of evaporating it down slowly, either all the way or to freeze again.

My total product so far is ~0.296g of fluffy white crystals just like those pictured in the tek. Which, even if I don't manage to get anymore out of it, I'm perfectly happy with for my first attempt. I think if it weren't for my mishap I would have been at or around 0.5% yield.


I learned a lot about the process though, and definitely noted a few useful points for the future:
- pyrex is the way to go
- a funnel or two would be a great help
- 1/2 pint jars are nice for precip, but only if you don't tilt them. I had a fair amount of crystals trapped on the upper surfaces inside, and I eventually just gave up and rinsed the jars with my leftover naptha, in hopes of getting it back later.

I don't have a vehicle to test any of it yet, nor do I want to rush into it. Maybe I'll be more ready when I get (or make) something proper. I look forward to it!

Congrats on getting something out of your first extraction! though under 300mg from 80g bark is not such a good yield, is the bark from a good source? Or indeed there will be more crashing out if you evap some more and freeze again (or evap it all down and re-crystallize the goo that will probably remain.

endlessness- I got my bark from heavenly products, they seem reputable though I don't really know for sure. I have another 150g left, and I'm thinking of doing three separate extractions to prevent loosing all of it if something goes wrong, and so that I get more practice. I'm going to freeze my leftovers tonight so between that and my future attempts I should be able to tell whether the it was the bark itself or me that caused the low yield!

I also may end up trying the spice sooner than I anticipated. While looking over the designs posted in the wiki for various administration devices, I realized I pretty much had everything I needed to make one and I love making things...

So, I basically constructed a bubbler using a mason jar some rubber and vinyl tubing, and then made "The Inspirator mkII" for the stem. I don't know yet when I'll use it, but I will certainly post how it goes.

Update: After evaporating down and refreezing the leftover naptha, I got another 0.179g, so that brings the total yield for the first extraction up to 0.475g. I think that's a bit more on track, but I'll see if I can't do better next time.
