Familiarity breeds contempt.

Phlux-, at least have the local pharmacist look at the wound if a doctor is out of the question due to monetary/time issues. While the pharmacist is not a doctor, many pharmacists are familiar with first aid ( basic Hippocratic medicine) and can provide an educated opinion on simple ailments such as mechanical injuries and burns : those are quite common since they can arise in the urban setting a lot.

The swelling (oedema), the shoreness and stiffness you report worry me. Some of the burns sound serious (3rd degree), mind sharing with us how they came to be (sorry if i missed it). I am afraid you might be looking at an infection there...Extensive burns can dehydrate someone and thus kill him -which is not your case from what i gather- but even smaller burns damage the very good barrier of the skin that can keep a whole lot of unwanted lifeforms from feasting on your body. Should it be compromised, infections can set it and in some cases if left unattended things could go pretty sour pretty fast.

The best first line treatment for "household burns" would be putting on the injuries this "betadine" ointment, the one that has a "vaseline"/"honey consistency or an equivalent. This stays on the spot and due to being an antiseptic will minimise the chances of an infection. Should you be infected or have suspicions of infection, then i am afraid antibiotics are needed. Most propably such cases are of bacterial origin. This means that if the pharmacist cannot help or supply antibiotics to you over the counter, the doctor visit might be inevitable. Maybe an antibiotic cream would do, but many doctors preffer systemic administration (the per os route) since this offers maximum protection to the body, not only to the site of injury.

Keep in mind though that i am NOT a licensed medical doctor by any stretch, so the above constitutes only the opinion of a layman. Please do not suffice yourself solely on my advice and certainly before trying any treatment get the opinion of a person that was trained to treat such conditions.

i saw a nurse at the local pharmacy - got the required dressings etc.
i had acetone on my hands - that turned to flames - i shook my hands to get the flames out - skin went flying everywhere.
im preddy sure its gona be fine- iv treated many of my own and others injuries - way better than iv been treated by any western doctor - and i had always gone to the most expensive private hospitals.

doctor is not an option caus they really dont work for me very well.

eg - doctor gave me gause and bandaging and creams etc - if i go to sleep and dress it just before bed - when i wake up my skin has grown thru the bandage and when i remove it, it takes off all the new skin - leaving it more raw than when i went to sleep.

Iv said it before and il say it agian - i heal really really really fast - and i dont get infections.
iv had a burn that was way worse - burned all the nails off my fingers(it was zink/sulphur based propellant - that blew me off my feet - i landed 10 feet away on my back with a still flaming with sulphur hand and missing hair and a burned forehead)(i was a naughty lightie)- 2 weeks later i was like preddy much back to normal - 2 months later you couldnt tell i had been burned - no scarring nothing.

Phlux, sorry to hear that, hope you get better!

Could you also explain how the accident happened? What were you doing to get flaming acetone over your hand?!?!? Also, can you provide pictures of the burn? I think pictures of burned flesh are uber cool, fire can create pure masterpieces on the skin!

Wouldn't everyone else agree?

i thought it was a bit siff to post pix of - and even slightly odd to want to take pix in the first place.
if it was for medical advice or to show what happens to the uncautious extractor - perhaps.

It was entirely my fault - it was a stupid thing to do, just never have a candle in the same room as any acetone - the distance between the acetone and candle makes no diff

That sounds pretty bad Phlux, Ive had my fair share of burns and accidents with homemade propellants, explosives, etc.

I hope your burn isn't worse than it sounds, maybe you could post a picture of your burn? If you don't mind.

I had a potassium nitrate/sugar rocket propellant went off in my hand, I got burning molten sugar/potassium nitrate all over my knuckles, and between my fingers (Fucking OUCH) and that scarred pretty badly.

Then there was that time with thermite, and now I have a small hole in my leg.

Emu oil is awesome for burns, u can get it in a all purpose first aid spray, the stuff we use has Emu oil as the main ingredient and Manuka, Neem, and Goldenseal mixed in too, seriously great stuff, cuts down on healing time and scarring considerably, and it soothes all the while with is healing oily goodness.

also great for rashes, bug bites, fungal infections....

heal fast buddy, burns are no fun!!!

haha yeah - i destroyed 3 nice tables in my parents house with that mix.
Thinking about it now - why does the common process involve melting the 2 to get the fused - why not disolve em mixed in a dash of water - like when making black powder.
Thermite i was uber carefull with - and always ground it fine - that stuff gets out of hand if ur particle size is wrong

anyway - i took off all bandages etc - and treated it the way "I" wanted to - which is like a hand - not a patient.
got it open to the air to dry and heal - and trying to use it without stretching or straining it.

the skin bubbled up nicely in a few spots - and the layer below that also had some - but those are all deflated now

ok..theese are really small compared to wim's blisters..it's very odd to touch them couse you feel as your hand is not your usual hand anymore Laughing
theese stories makes swim thinks that maybe would be better if he throw away his acetone peroxide stored somewhere in a glass jar, it's far more dangerous and sensitive compared to solvents or propellents Confused
