I was reading about column chromatography and electrophoresis. Both are very interesting and commonly used techniques in the lab. I was wondering if anybody tried to use one of these techniques for the extraction of plant alkaloids, such as mescaline.
The difficult part would be analyzing whether a fraction obtained from the column is, in fact, mescaline. I guess that this would be difficult to do at home.
On the other hand, as far as I know, electrophoresis is not used for extraction, but instead for qualitative analysis of solutes.

Anyway, has anybody tried one of these techniques? With or without success.

isn't there already a thread about this?

these are not extraction techniques; they are separation techniques, which can be used in preparative or analytical applications.

It's exciting tech.
I posted a similar thread, here's the original post:

Someone was telling me about a technique for seperating out chemicals (specifically dmt and mescalin) from plant matter via a centrifuge and electrified mesh/screen. Does anyone know anything about this?

I tried to look it up through scroogle and wikipedia hopping but the clossest I came was finding some articles on electrophoresis, which does look very cool in it's own right.

Now I'm wondering if some form of electrophoresis or other analytical separation techniques could be applied to the phalaris grass. Perhaps there is a way to avoid using the Xanthydrol reagent as would be done with TLC to distinguish between nn and 5me0.
These aren't the droids you're looking for.
