Its definitely contaminated with alkaloids but SWIM doesn't think those are responsible for the red color. SWIM scoured the literature for components in peganum harmala seeds that might account for this red component. Apparently anthraquinones which are red and were reported as red needles after crystallization were isolated from peganum harmala seeds after chromatography of an ethanol extract. I attach that paper.
