It surprises me that every time I see you make this post about the heat gun that no one replies to it. I think this is VERY interesting and maybe you can make a thread about it? With information on how exactly you use it, methods to use with different materials, etc.

I tried every imaginable heating device (torches, bics, candles, matches, homemade electric heating coils, heat guns, etc).

Heat guns are the best. IME it is the ultimate heat source for vaporizing straight spice or changa. Reasons?

1. No flame = no chance to ignite the spice.
2. Hot air temp ~600 C, instead of 1300 C in a typical torch. Very difficult to overheat the spice.
3. Hot air temp could be regulated.

Of course, not all heat guns are born equal. They should satisfy certain conditions. At the very least they should have a "dead man switch" - a must for any solo traveller.

I would appreciate opinions, experiences, criticism of nexians who tried or are using heat guns.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

What heat do you usualy set it to? The 600C mentioned?

And do you use a pipe that you heat the gun with? Or directly on the spice?

Kind regards,

The Traveler

p.s. thank you for making this thread!

Do you have a photo of the one you use?

The 3 reasons why a heat gun works well also apply to something like the GVG:

---- 1. Because of the ceramic diffuser, there is never a direct flame.
---- 2. The diffuser keeps the temp of the air entering the vaporization chamber well below that of the torch lighter.
---- 3. Hot air temp can be regulated in two ways – raising/lowering the flame or increasing/decreasing airflow rate.

Isn’t a heat gun rather bulky? Is it possible to inadvertently burn yourself? (How widely is the heat dispersed?) Is it hot when you put it down? Fire risk? How expensive?

Temp is regulated by the lenghts of the nozzle and gas flow. The heat gun I use now (Dremel) produces 650 C max. This is enough to vaporize and inhale 50 mg of spice in one toke.

Does not really matter. IME heat guns work well with the machine, glass pipe, dry bong (my favorite). I apply heat directly to spice or changa. There is no need to use ceramic filters or anything. The range of distances between the spice and the nozzle is much bigger than for a torch. Even if you touch the spice with the nozzle you cannot ignite or overheat it.

You're right. The idea is the same. The only difference is that you can use a heat gun to vaporise the spice from any device.

Yes. Some are. I use a pretty big Dremel heat gun because it has many other applications, but I saw small ones that easily fit a pocket.

gibran2 wrote:

It is safer than a torch. There is no open flame. Of course it is a good idea to have a push button that switches off the heat gun once you drop it. Same applies to torch lighters.

gibran2 wrote:

Depends on the nozzle.

gibran2 wrote:

It is hot, so do not drop it on your bare feet, but it is not hot enough to ignite or burn your carpet. Dremel has thick walled nozzles that absorb and dissipate heat very effectively. If that is not enough you may wrap some copper wire around the nozzle to dissipate the heat even better.

Depends on quality. Anywhere between $20 and $100 where I live.

Interesting.

One thing I do not like about it - it is mains-operated. Sometimes I like to blast-off outdoors.

Yours isn't? Yours is battery operated?

No. It is butane powered.

https://www.dmt-nexus.me...rum/resource.ashx?a=3188

It is ~20 cm long. A bit bulky and I do not really need it to run for 2 hrs before the next refill.

There are lots of smaller devices on the Internet also running on butane.

Butane – of course.

(I don’t think you’d get much use out of a battery operated heat gun! Embarrased )

Maybe SWIM's done it wrong in the past, but he could always taste the the products of incomplete butane combustion when he's attempted this. Maybe it's just the type of heat gun he was using?

What about this...

Its just slightly larger than a normal lighter. Seems pretty handy. I may have to try it

why does the range goes from fhrenheit to celcius ?
I mean is it a mistake or you do this sometime ?
It would look like a good one to use...

Yeah I noticed that. Just assumed it was a typo and meant farenheit. I have seen a bunch that look just like this. They are all over. Trying to find a better price but since I just ordered the arc a week ago I have to wait anyway.

No its in celcius. I found it on 2 or 3 other sites and they sat UP TO 650ºC (~1200ºF). That may mean its adjustable, maybe not. When I get some funds up I'll get one and let you all know, but that may be a couple of weeks so feel free to beat me to the punch there.

I think im going to get one of these, it looks perfect for using with a pipe/bong.

Can you also vaporize it bit by bit?

I know lots of you enjoy taking it all in one toke but i like to stretch it out & meditate into it, then finish it all off.

I'm concerned about inhaling butane aswell...would love someone to report back on this....

If the butane is not completely combusting, then carbon monoxide will be produced. Butane combustion in the presence of ample oxygen produces only H20 and carbon dioxide.

Does anyone know whether this is occurring with such heat guns? I know that they are usually not sold specifically as smoking devices, but rather for electronic work and other projects.
