SWIM recently (about 2 months ago) finished the book Inner Paths to Outer Space by Rick Strassman and others and found the material to be informative and extremely inspiring. This led swim to the DMT Nexus where swim has spent many hours researching extraction techniques as well as general DMT info. SWIM has never actually tried DMT but has had many experiences with psilocybin (shrooms) and a couple with LSD. Also 3 times with 2CT-2. All were amazing times, mind expanding and very fun.
SWIM thinks he would be a valuable addition to the DMT Nexus. First of all, SWIM is an analytical chemist who could greatly contribute to the extraction forum. SWIM has many, many things he would like to post in the advanced chemist portion. Also SWIM has read extensively about DMT and has personal experience with other entheogens.
Thanks for reading,
LSD

Welcome to the Nexus, LSD. This is a forum where Chemistry is very much appreciated and needed.
Once again, welcome. It is our honor.

Welcome! Nice to have more chemists indeed, and I will be happy to read your posts in the advanced chem and extraction forums. Any plans of an extraction any time soon? If so, which method are you thinking of? What about oral dmt, did you also not try that? By the way, feel free to start threads in the nursery regarding topics in the advanced chem section or elsewhere. Whenver you are promoted, just pm any mods (with the little shield below the avatar), and ask them to merge with the original threads. Im sure in a couple more posts you are promoted, so dont feel put back to post here in the nursery now. See you around

SWIM has never tried DMT in any way shape or form. SWIM takes that back, at a hippe festival about 3 summers ago some random guy gave SWIM a bag with what SWIM would estimate to be about 5 mg of DMT. SWIM and two others (knowing nothing about DMT at the time) put the DMT on top of a bowl of weed and passed it around, no one felt anything. SWIM is planning to extract soon as soon as his friend moves into a new place.
SWIMI have many ideas to add to the chemistry forum however, such as: silica/alumina/florisil cleanup of the base aqueous solution. Possibly solid phase extraction. This would be a lot more expensive than the silica/alumina/florisil options. Also I have made a graph of the % ionized vs unionized for a molecule with a pKa of 8.68 eg DMT. At pH 6.68, 99% of the molecules are ionized = soluble in water. At pH 10.68, 99% of the molecules are in the "free base" form = neutral amine = soluble in limonene or any non-polar solvent, naphtha, hexane, etc. The pH and pKa scales are logarithmic, this means that for each unit the quantity in question ( [H+] for pH or pH at which half the molecules are ionized for pKa) goes up or down by a factor of 10. That is why at plus or minus 2 pH units from the pKa, 99% of the molecules are either ionized or free base. Many of the teks I have read take the pH much lower in the acid portion, and much higher in the base portion than 6.68 and 10.68. By narrowing the pH window (difference between acid and base) less impurities will be pulled along and end up in the future.
When SWIM performs the extraction he will use 6.68 and 10.68 with limonene and post data. Possibly alongside a separate extraction utilized silica and/or alumina and florisil.

P.S. Once I find that file I will post the graph of pH vs %ionized/unionized. I derived it from the Henderson Hasselbach equation if anyone is curious.

yeah, you right about pHs didn't noticed they was slightly wrong.. i'm very curious to see what come out from your extraction with right pHs,unfortunatly i have just litmus papers and would be difficult do read decimals of pH lol Tz'is aná
