Me too! I found that documentary extraordinary and I think it helped me understand several things about the universe and evolution.
When the credits started to show, at the end I saw a title called: World of Wonder BBC Science... so I searched what it was and found a very interesting list of documentaries transmitted by BBC Four. Among them an amazing series of chemistry history and present research.
I'll leave the Youtube link here. I think many people would love to watch this series called:
BBC | Chemistry: A Volatile History| Ep 1 Discovering the Elements | (1/6)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25lprEvoFJ8
| Ep 2 The Order of the Elements | (1/6)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogg5cyWxV-4
| Ep 3 The Power of the Elements | (1/6)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHL80A93lCA
A must see! Trust me.
BBC FOUR wrote:The explosive story of chemistry is the story of the building blocks that make up our entire world - the elements. From fiery phosphorous to the pure untarnished lustre of gold and the dazzle of violent, violet potassium, everything is made of elements - the earth we walk on, the air we breathe, even us. Yet for centuries this world was largely unknown, and completely misunderstood.
In this three-part series, professor of theoretical physics Jim Al-Khalili traces the extraordinary story of how the elements were discovered and mapped. He follows in the footsteps of the pioneers who cracked their secrets and created a new science, propelling us into the modern age.
In the final part, Professor Al-Khalili uncovers tales of success and heartache in the story of chemists' battle to control and combine the elements, and build our modern world. He reveals the dramatic breakthroughs which harnessed their might to release almost unimaginable power, and he journeys to the centre of modern day alchemy, where scientists are attempting to command the extreme forces of nature and create brand new elements.
Thanks for the links burnt, and thank for showing me the documentary about Chaos Theory (on the other thread) amor_fati
Maybe we should have a sticky thread about
scientific documentaries? I think it would rock.
