There is too much mis-information about the universe going around for us to make sense of tripping balls in it.

Therefore I've gathered some lectures on some topics I personally find interesting. Some people requested I back up some of my ideas and theories about the universe. All of which are not my own so these are some of the people who have inspired me to continue pondering the universe over the years.

These lectures rock. If you can't fit psychedelic experiences into these kinds of contexts your missing I think some amount of the truth about psychedelics and your existence.

I've been watching that doc on chaos theory as well as some docs on Hawkings' theories. I'll be watching "Darwin and the Tree of Life" soon and am trying to get around to watching that transhumanist doc that was posted here a while back. Looks like I'll be checking out the material you've posted quite soon, as well.

Me too! I found that documentary extraordinary and I think it helped me understand several things about the universe and evolution.

When the credits started to show, at the end I saw a title called: World of Wonder BBC Science... so I searched what it was and found a very interesting list of documentaries transmitted by BBC Four. Among them an amazing series of chemistry history and present research.

I'll leave the Youtube link here. I think many people would love to watch this series called:

BBC | Chemistry: A Volatile History

| Ep 1 Discovering the Elements | (1/6)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25lprEvoFJ8

| Ep 2 The Order of the Elements | (1/6)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogg5cyWxV-4

| Ep 3 The Power of the Elements | (1/6)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHL80A93lCA

A must see! Trust me.

BBC FOUR wrote:
The explosive story of chemistry is the story of the building blocks that make up our entire world - the elements. From fiery phosphorous to the pure untarnished lustre of gold and the dazzle of violent, violet potassium, everything is made of elements - the earth we walk on, the air we breathe, even us. Yet for centuries this world was largely unknown, and completely misunderstood.

In this three-part series, professor of theoretical physics Jim Al-Khalili traces the extraordinary story of how the elements were discovered and mapped. He follows in the footsteps of the pioneers who cracked their secrets and created a new science, propelling us into the modern age.

In the final part, Professor Al-Khalili uncovers tales of success and heartache in the story of chemists' battle to control and combine the elements, and build our modern world. He reveals the dramatic breakthroughs which harnessed their might to release almost unimaginable power, and he journeys to the centre of modern day alchemy, where scientists are attempting to command the extreme forces of nature and create brand new elements.

Thanks for the links burnt, and thank for showing me the documentary about Chaos Theory (on the other thread) amor_fati

Maybe we should have a sticky thread about scientific documentaries? I think it would rock.

That documentary about the history of chemistry was very nice. Amazing the ingenuity of some of the earliest chemists.

Here’s a good TED talk by Sam Harris relating science and morality:

^^Haven't watch the video you put up yet but the title brings to mind some thoughts.

Recently decided to read the origin of species and its so absolutely fascinating to see the things about evolution that Darwin was still confused about yet he was still so certain because it made so much sense. He often in the book talks about how ignorant we are of the laws of inheritance (which we now know is all about DNA and sexual and asexual reproduction) among other things. I can only imagine what it would be like for Darwin to see what we know now. It would blow his mind I am sure in a good way.

Its a fascinating book I recommend it to anyone interested in these topics. Although his writing style is much different from what we are used to now and that makes it hard to read. But its very much written as if he is discussing the topic with you and not just lecturing you which I find very enjoyable.

I can't imagine what a person back then would think if they got to see what we know today..I'm sure some would scream witchcraft! Laughing

Its really interesting how Alfred Wallace presented his own theory of evolution by natural selection, VERY similar to darwins- that darwin came across right when he was developing his model. And how darwin later discovered his grandfather wrote some poetic descriptions of evolution in his books before he was even around.

<Ringworm>hehehe, it's all fun and games till someone loses an "I"

Yes Wallace and Darwin were thinking the same thing at basically the same time. Darwin hesitated for years to publish his work because he was afraid of what it might do to the world and his family (his wife was rather religious). Wallace however made a critical error. He thought evolution couldn't explain humans Darwin did.
