My first Mimosa hostilis Growing in vermiculite

This was a test with 5 seeds. Now I know this method works I'll repeat with a few more soon.

Nice seedlings, good luck with them! What is your overall approach regarding potting mix & environment in regards to humidity? Because I managed to sprout several M. hostilis over the years but the ambient humidity always played tricks on me .

I started seedlings in a basic mix and they sprouted abundantly. Eventually, in a growing container with a high humidity container; they would grow like crazy. However, as soon as I would get them out for repotting they would die due to a shock in humidity/humidity wasn't high enough in the new environment for them...

Awesome. Perhaps I would plant half of them in my soil from my yard and plant half in pots with potting soil just in case they prefer other type of soil

The seedlings have grown a bit now. Most are still fairly small but the couple i repotted first took off from the others a bit.

They're all outside and seem to be happy.

Grow medium in repotted ones is around 60% compost, 25 coco coir, 15 perlite.

The red squirrel, perhaps you got yours a bit too used to the humidity by having them in humidity container? I just had mine in my sunroom before taking outside.

So the seedlings are just in vermiculite by itself?

I think the first few were just vermiculite which worked good for me as not much risk of the seedling drying out and dying on me.

But then I started doing vermiculite for the top third and a mix of potting mix/ verm/ and perlite for the lower two thirds which is my fav method now as the roots take off in that.

I keep the seedling pots in a tray and to keep a bit of water in the tray for the most part.

Climates good so far. Been dry and hot lately but I water most days.

I just need to get a greenhouse sorted before winter arrives.

I have more than enough seedlings now so i plan to do a bit of trial and error of just what they can handle here.

I have been hoping once they get properly established they might be able to handle a bit more but will see.
