Greetings Fellow Nexians:

After 10 years of loving care of my lovely peyote plants; started from seed and grown outside in their dedicated bed (there is a photograph of them in their bed in an old post), on their tenth anniversary of planting, I harvested about one kilogram of fresh peyote.

I would like to open the discussion to all Nexian cactus-lovers for ideas on how I should partake of this wonderful sacrament. Should I extract and purify? Should I consume raw? Should I make tea?...

I would like to hear your opinions and reasons for deciding one method over another.

Try it by itself, of course. But, I do remember that Peyote mixes nicely with Pedro if you feel like that.

Had a handful of Huichol guided yote ceremonies, it was dried and pulverized (for convenience probably) and swallowed with apple juice.

Dunno how NAC use them, would like to know.

I love the taste of fresh peyote. Reminds me of ginseng.

Peyote is a whole alkaloid factory accompanying the mescaline. I'd say do it whole, at least once, and compare to purified mescaline.

In 1988 I sat all night in the tipi. We ate the cactus and we drank tea and purged all night long. There was a lot of drumming and ceremony and a heck of a lot of purging but we just kept at it and it was one of the more memorable experiences of my life. The next day was kind of cool too. Just be ready for a lot of purging. Eat cactus, drink tea, purge, drink water, repeat.

Thanks for that Pandora. Sounds like it was a powerful experience! I am not the biggest fan of purging...so I am going to have to psych myself up and set up an appropriate space on the farm and have a few days available without commitments before I go for it!

I don't think any of us are big fans of purging. Purging on cactus is very spiritual though. You'll see. Let us know how it all goes.

I've taken Peyote a number of times at dosages of about 6 buttons with no purge or nausea. A larger amount made me purge once.

Hey brokedownpalace10! That is quite encouraging news...how strong were the effects at that dosage?

6 mature buttons is what my dad told me he dosed on back in his day.

What I did once was eat a peyote button along with San Pedro, and I think it differed from just San Pedro.

Not super strong, actually. People used to say that it took 4 buttons to equal an average, light, hit of acid.
Of course they would talk about how the Peyote was so much more "handle-able", as well.

I wouldn't expect anything earth shattering, but it should be pleasant.

In the yote group sessions I was in, aprox 1/3 to 50% of people went into a purge routine, some once, some a few times.
For myself I found the come-up taxing, near purge, but then suddenly a shift happens, a threshold is passed and it's going very well from there. Each session was like that.

I did an extraction on a small sample (10g) of what I harvested and got a pretty good yield, so I think between the actual mescaline and all the other alkaloids that weren't captured, eating six buttons will/should produce a reasonable experience.

I will face the purge as it comes and see what happens.
