I personally wouldn't use nickel with a basic amine like DMT. You can test it out with a small amount if you like (but don't inhale the vapours) and if you see any green discolouration on the nickel that's a definite no-no. You're probably just better off getting hold of the right stainless steel mesh, however.
DMT melts easily at a temperature below that of boiling water so it will be easy to form it into an aggregated lump. If you want crystals you'd be better off recrystallising it from naphtha, especially since it appears you didn't extract the material yourself. Some would argue you've screwed that bit up already but at least there's no hurry in this - you can find out all you need to know with a bit of digging around in the forum, and there's also a
