My first extraction i evapped with a fan and was left with yellow oil which i infused into mj and it was active. This extraction i did really crap i didnt chop the bark up enough (didnt blend it) and the final shellite pulls werent as warm and i used a bit too much shellite. Didnt reduce the bark tea down enough. Probobly about a .5g worth of spice from 1kg bark.

Second extraction was on 1kg, was cut up alot more finely. Used a little bit too much shellite again and also last pulls were a bit cold. Didnt reduce the bark tea down enough. This time i did a double A/B. My first few pulls were a little bit of a yellow tinge and the last few were completely clear. I evapped half and froze half. Not good yield as i think the shellite wasnt super saturated, got about .3 crystal clear white from the freeze and about 1g of highly oxidised dmt from the evap (fan). The oxidised one was from my first 2 pulls and the .3 was from my last pull.

Third extraction. 500g with a heat bath for the pulls, blended bark but not powdered. Boiled down to 450ml bark tea, did 75/75/100ml shellite pulls. Then put straight into freezer in a wide glass bowl about 15 cm wide. Was not cloudy when it went in the freezer. Been in freezer for about 48 hours and i can see alot of crystal however most of it is floating on the bottom as opposed to stuck ot the side of the glass. Poured out shellite and managed to have most of the crystal stay in the bowl without going into the filter. Dried off and was left with .4g (lame!) yellow powder in a baggy.. Quite a bit of yellow oil left over which i tried to evap with fan and got it down to about 50ml however its still not cloudy, in the freezer now. *update* - no yield.

Fourth extraction will be using 700g heavily blended bark (almost powdered), going to do 75/75/75/125ml shellite pulls, and doing a double a/b to get rid of all the yellow oil like in a previous extraction. However ill be evapping 2/3 of that with a fan before i put it into the freezer. and putting it in a tall glass like my second extraction so hopefully it all sticks to the side and causes lots of snow that i can easily just pour all the shellite out of then turn the glass upside down to dry then scrape off. Hopefully this will get me the yield im looking for! Argh.

*Update* .. Wow.... i think i added a bit more lye this time and everytime i shook the container it expanded instead of just the first few times. pulls were extremely cloudy then it went crystal clear (WTF?!) i was about to give up at extracting dmt when i remember someone talking about blowing on dmt bits that have dissolved in small amounts of shellite, so i blew on the 400ml of shellite and BAM out of no where dmt crashed out like magic! it was just billowing out like smoke out of a building on fire. I didnt bother with a double AB because ive never seen this happen before.

Its in the freezer now and after 8 hours i think i can see about at least 2g of spice!

-update-
Major success. At least 3 grams. I think my issue all along was perhaps not adding enough lye.. possibly.. and also allowing a bit of oxygen into the shakes in the container instead of just making room for expansion and closing the lid straight away, let it breath in a bit of oxygen.. maybe that helps the reaction.

Hopefully this time it works out good. im getting sick of low yields!

I have a good feeling that doing a double a/b will get me a good yield based on the first time i did it and evapped half and froze half and it hink it was really not saturated either ...

When you use bark, what part do you use mostly? The brown rough stuff on the outside? the layers of wood underneath then theres like the red slightly damp bits? Ive been using all three so basically like from outside to about 1.5cm in.. sound about right?

You would have done improper freeze precips and left spice in the solvent, so you need to evap it down until you cant see through it (glass fogging doesn't count) then stick it in the freezer for 48hrs. People use the top two layers (brown and red), but peel out the yellow wood parts (should be easy when its dry it will peel off). Make sure its blended at least to fibers.

okay cool, i can improve there then.

Also, some people say just do a/b without a defat and then evap and freeze but thers a whole lot of yellow oil in it, if i evap im thinking the oil/solvent ratio would get high and then the dmt would all go into the oil and not freeze out? I think thats maybe what was happening?

Either way, im going to defat tonight and put a fan on it and evap it down until it goes cloudy.. Ive never seen it go cloudy with the yellow oil in it.

Hopefully this works..

I battled low yields for a while... it gets better - keep practicing!

Never evap your solvent off completely you create more spice degradation products (n-oxide) and then still have to do another a/b or recrys to clean it up so really whats the point? You don't need to do a defat acacias aren't that bad thats for grasses and such. The colour of the solvent (usually light yellow so relax) doesnt matter whatever is trapped in the non-polar stays there if you freeze precipitate thats the whole idea. It just takes practice to get the techniques down. By yellow oil are you talking about a yellow/orange layer that hangs around below the shellite (insoluble in the shellite) if so thats the dmt n-oxide. Re-read the DMT handbook coshi covers pretty much everything.

by yellow oil i mean my entire shellite pulls look like YELLOW not just below the shellite, but the whole thing. VERY yellow, like golden yellow.

The shellite will always look yellow its fine. Thats the dissolved plant oils. Like I said the shellite traps them and you can extract the nice white spice by freeze precip.
