Hi all, I recently learnt how to write shaders with glsl, and I eventually began messing around with mandala-type equations, where each pixel's colour is changed depending on the distance and angle to the center of a texture. Some patterns emerged from what when zoomed in just looks like a regular spiral (see attached), but when zoomed out takes on some interesting forms. The pixel colours change according to the following: tan(distance*2 + angle) - cos(exp(distance/100))
Each colour is offset to produce the rainbow effect, with green offset by pi/3 and blue by pi/3 * 2.
Enjoy the eye candy Big grin

Very cool titus, thank you for sharing! The second last one reminds me of patterns I saw on some mushroom journeys Thumbs up
...no need to worry...

Thank you for these titus! I needed a new screensaver. I'd be interested to see what some of my artwork looks like when ran through this program.

These are good examples of what is called an aliasing effect. It's derived from limitations of the medium or of the calculations themselves, which can only have a certain maximum level of resolution whether in the digital display or in the number of significant figures in the numerical values. The patterns arose during the zooming process because the resolution became reduced.

That doesn't mean it won't bear some relation to some of the visual patterns seen in psychedelic experiences.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."
― Jacques Bergier, quoting Fulcanelli

You can also see something similar to this if squinting at sunlight reflecting off surfaces, especially automobiles. I see it all the time sober.
