Can I use pure gasoline ( no additives ) as a solvent in STB? I can only find Zippo lighter fuel in stores, no naphtha or heptane. I do however have this so I was wondering if I could use this instead?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Hi

You can do an evaporation test. If it doesn´t leave any kind of residue or oil it is ok.
But make sure there is no additives in there.

Have a gud one

Wikipedia told me that in a lot of parts in the world Gasoline is a synonyme for Petrolether.
Gasoline should be refined out of Petrolium and Petrolether is basicly the same although there are different kinds of both.
Like mentioned above do a evaportion test, it should not leave anything behind nothing you can see and nothing you can smell.
(you should use a sufficient amount like 100-200ml to test if it leaves nothing behind)

Tell us your resultsSmile
If you smoke it right, you can't hold a pipe.

I think many people would be using gasoline if it was a good option.

The quality control on gasoline is not intended to ensure you can use it for extraction (neither is lighter fluid, albeit). The amount and composition of residue is probably highly variable. The benzene content of gasoline is likely greater than lighter fluid. There's probably some gas that's fine to use, there's probably some gas that's really not fine. I generally find gas is more volatile than lighter fluid, but that may not be true consistently.

I would guess that most people avoid using gasoline due to additives. I wonder how you're so certain that there are no additives.

If ethanol is present it may also make your yields worse. I don't know for sure though.

I'm no gearhead like my father, but to my knowledge gasoline more often than not contains lubricants and other additives (lead!!) which help your engine run. This would not be good for extracting spice! There's also the possibility that parts of it are soluble in water, which would ruin everything.

Perhaps you have gotten your hands on a very clean gasoline, though, in which case it could be a great experiment. If the yield is bad, you can always hang on to the soup and pull with something else.

What country are you in?

This is essential to determining what will actually be meant by the term "gasoline".

Comparative etymology of petroleum distillates is an absolute minefield, tbh. Worldwide there is a whole host of names for subtly different variations on essentially the same thing.

The comment about benzene (not benzine/benzin/bensin!!) content is very important. Only use a product with less than 0.5% benzene, preferably lower than that.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."
