What about The Platform? Is there a cohesive message obscured in translation, or the political and cultural situations of it's country of origin? At the risk of being downright lazy, the exact points put forth in this piece of clickbait are the same ones I had upon viewing. In my city, which is a bastion of support for Bernie Sanders style American socialism, this movie has recieved accolades. It doesn't seem like anybody understands this story though, and the applause comes from a wide eyed acceptance of the (either) incomplete (or misunderstood) message because it seems to have something to do with humanism because the main characters want to feed people at all cost. The moral to me is futility in a class struggle in today's oligarchal society, rather than the triumph of the little persons struggling against that system to change it. That any effort to change the system is going to fail due to the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of those who fight against an overpowering system, their fractured inability to agree on a common method and eventually the struggle will degrade and destroy itself. That, or the writers have no concept of logic. While the entire film demands a complete suspension of disbelief, no story can demand that the consumer suspends all narrative logic, unless that is the point in an artistic sense. And that is not the mechanism in place here, this is not a Dadaist film, but a social commentary. This movie has a point, but what the hell is it? What is weird to me is how it just seems to be accepted as a lesson deleted to the left on the struggle against the right, without any real comprehension of what the story actually says or means. Maybe it's just a crap movie. Sine experientia nihil sufficienter sciri potest -Roger Bacon *γνῶθι σεαυτόν*

Currently showing on Netflix. The Last Kingdom. It was a pleasant surprise to discover a fourth season had been made of this brilliant series. The main character, Uhtred, looks like a young Brendan Fraser. “Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.” -R.I.P. Middle in Midnight Gospel and loving it. The way the visuals forms around the podcast and warp its emotions, and eventually thematics, into a web of unbounded psychedelic fuelled imagination feels like a body in constant evolution. The accentuation of the dissociation that result from this entity forming and tearing our minds between our eyes and ears, between concepts and ripples of movement is simply gorgeous and highly effective. It's not entirely stand alone but you have to look for the links. This is tippically the reason why I'm happy Netflix exist and hope there's more coming our way. More. 安心精神芝簡単吸収前進'''.'''''...'''''''..'~>\\\*'*¤@¤-.*;,^/ò°ò\^,,;*.-¤@¤*'*///<~'..'''''''...'''''.''' */(°_-_-_-_-_-_-,-:_:°_°::.:..((<u><u><u><u><u><vvv><vvv><vv><vvv>((",°^°FFF[[[--°°°___<<<```///---_°°°<<`_`_`°o°o°O°O°.°-)-(-°..°o.)°..O))°°(O°;';;'';;;''<°<°<<°°°<°°°<<<°°__-_---___---_°_°°___°°--°°_---____/__//___//__///__/_///_/_///_//o°oo°°oo°°oo°oo°°°ooo°o°o°o°o°o°°o°o°o^°^°^^°^°^°^°,,-.'''..--''__--```((-°-),-.-,,((),)(),) .°o;;;^`^_<<<8>>>_^`^,,,O.°

Just watched 1917 today. Or well-tried. Stopped halfway through. Was kind of bored tbh. Props to any director who takes on the 'one shot' scenario, but imo, there's nothing more in there.
On the other hand 'Victoria' another one-shot movie from Germany is an absolute masterpiece in my opinion.
I've never gripped on my cinema chair so tight, as when I watched it first back then. Strongly recommended.
Thanks for recommending 'High Maintenance' I really enjoyed that - I love that whole 'Humans of New York' Scenario.
The best show I've seen this year is probably 'Patriot'.
Don't get turned away by the name, it's absolutely brilliant in story and character development. It also has some good belly shakers of bordering genius dark humor in there, for those who are into that.

I am three episodes into Money Heist and I like it really well. I just downloaded Citizen Four, the Edward Snowden documentary, hoping it is interesting. olympus mon wrote:You need to hit it with intention to get where you want to be! The main character, Uhtred, looks like a young Brendan Fraser. Vikings - from the English angle. Pretty good.

So maybe i'll have to wait a bit. Null wrote:My only complaint is that the end kind of collapses visually, as if the art team was fired or the production ran out of money, but still... Great movie. yeah, i think that the film was quite low budget and while watching i was wondering how they would deal the climactic scene. I actually thought that they did it quite well. It wasn't what i expected and it kind of gave me a feeling of glory. Which i liked. I watched Midsommer the other night. It was disturbing and very trippy. What a bunch of nutters!! Two French language films i liked along similar lines of people getting involved with mad communities were Calvaire and SheitanOne of my favourite Irish movies is Adam and Paul. Which has been described as a mix of Samuel Beckett and Laurel and Hardy. Depressing, funny and poignant. Though i am not sure how the humour (or accents) will translate to other cultures.

I can't believe no one has suggested Climax yet. Streaming on Amazon Prime.
I'm not always a fan, but it's pretty groovy.

Just for laughs. Norsemen. Netflix. Re-watching because it was so good a couple years ago. "Assicle"... " Enjoy every sandwich." - Warren Zevon "No, they never did turn me into a toad." - Pete (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) "Are you a time traveller?" "No, I think I'm more of a time prisoner." - Nadia Vulvokov (Russian Doll)

I'm amazed people find the time to watch movies! I've spent most of my time gardening and doing DIY. In keeping with the season, how about The Wicker Man? https://www.imdb.com/video/vi838205721 “There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work." ― Jacques Bergier, quoting Fulcanelli

Wish I had a garden of my own. My girl and I went on a walk yesterday and saw tons of people working in their yards. I want so badly to own a home of our own. We live in a subsidized apartment. There is a small garden out front though. olympus mon wrote:You need to hit it with intention to get where you want to be! The long wait is finally over! Rick and Morty are back with the second half of S04! When the first half of S04 was being shown, I mentioned it to my pizza delivery man because I was about to watch a new episode. He said he never watched it and said he may check it out after hearing my praise of the show. The following week he thanked me for turning him on to it and that he thought it was the best show he's ever seen. Somehow, I felt proud of myself when he told me this, probably because I share his opinion. “Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.” -R.I.P. Just cleared a nice strip for some seeds and cuttings... As soon as i turn the TV off....
Kidding, I'm really doing other stuff too. As soon as I find a black-market ink dealer so I can color inside my lines, I have a ton of new art to peel your peepers for. Some inspired by all the Godzilla movies i've been watching.
