I have been searching for wether hexane is good for pulling or not ,so I have made myself an expierment using Hexane .

Procedure: 20Gms M.H
1.25Gms Sodium hydroxide mixed with 350ML Water.
2.Added M.H after one hour to Sodium hydroxide.
One hour left in warm bath .
3. Added 50ML Hexane to solution and mixed it and left for one hour in warm bath.
4.seperated Hexane from solution and covered the bowl and left it in deep freeze.
5. In 2 to 3 hours your crystals will appear.

I recommend heptane, not hexane for most people, as hexane appears to be far more neurotoxic:

Pentane, Hexane, Heptane neurotoxicity in rats

"The experiment showed that n-hexane disturbed the conduction velocity of the motor nerve and the mixed nerve and prolonged the distal latency in the rat's tail, but that n-pentane and n-heptane did not. The light and electron microscopic examination showed that the peripheral nerve, the neuromuscular junction, and the muscle fibre of the rats exposed to n-hexane were severely impaired, but those of the rats exposed to n-pentane or n-heptane showed no particular changes even after 16 weeks of exposure. These results show that n-hexane is far more toxic to the peripheral nerve of the rat than n-pentane or n-heptane."

OSHA believes that n-hexane is uniquely toxic

"the Agency finds that the neurotoxicity caused by exposure to n-hexane is the result of the action of a unique metabolite, 2,5-hexanedione; the majority of record commenters agreed with OSHA that n-hexane is uniquely toxic"

That second link says this at the bottom..

Quote:
Because heptane is considered to be more acutely toxic than hexane, OSHA concludes that it is appropriate to revise its limit for heptane to a level below that established for the hexane isomers to reduce the significant risk of narcosis, which is a material health impairment. Therefore, OSHA is revising its limit for heptane to 400 ppm as an 8-hour TWA and 500 ppm as a 15-minute STEL. The Agency concludes that the TWA and STEL together will substantially reduce this significant occupational risk.

Now.. am I sitting too close to the model glue or ..did they get their wording mixed up and write heptane where they meant to write hexane?

They mean that heptane is more likely to introduce short-term safety hazards such as making you dizzy, so they are raising the 15-minute and 8-hour exposure limits. However, hexane (and therefore naphtha, proportionally to its hexane content) is more detrimental to your long-term health due to getting metabolized into 2,5-hexanedione.

I am actually very new to DMT extraction, I was just thinking after pull ,do you think heptane is better than Hexane ,coz I can't find Vmp naptha at my place .Sad

As far as the extraction itself goes, hexane, heptane and naphtha (which is a mix of similar hydrocarbons) are more or less equivalent, so you can use whatever you have.

As far as toxicity goes, yeah some of these can be somewhat more toxic than others but you if you take basic safety precautions,it shouldnt matter. It goes without saying, dont huff your solvent lol... Work in a well ventilated area, avoid breathing too close, avoid consistent long term exposure, and make sure your DMT is properly dry before using it. All such recommendations are in the FAQ and health and safety sections.

I only use hexane for my np. It seems to give a much cleaner product IMO. I use acacia and have never needed to defat as others have claimed it is a problem for them.
