So what are the benefits of freebase harmalas versus just salted harmalas?

I have some salted harmalas and want to turn them to free-base could this be done by:

1. Suspend Sodium Carbonate(weight = double the amount of weight of harmalas) in H20
2. Add Salted Harmalas to solution. Agitate and allow to sit for 6 hours(so freebase sediment looms at the bottom)?
3. Filter the solution via gravity filtration using coffee filters
4. Evaporate and dry the solids left on coffee filter?

Wam-o free-base harmalas?

I really would prefer to never have something I will be ingesting even touch a non-polar solvent if possible(solvent contaminations are all too common).

I figure if you didn't supersaturate the water with sodium carbonate then the water will remove any excess NaCL and help to further purify the product not only turn it freebase.

I also figure if your 'left-over' solution(after filtration) still flouresces under a black-light than maybe you should add more base+H20 to the solution and try to crash more harmalas out?

Just thought Id report back here and let you guys know that the method I proposed in my previous post works!

I'm not sure if they are freebase harmalas but I would have to assume so, seeing as how they are no longer water soluble.

edit - the water is still dyed harmala color(much lighter though) so it makes me wonder if there are still harmalas in there, so I added more sodium carb to try to crash more out but seems like nothing is really happening so maybe the rest is just unwanted stuff.

The yeild was approximately 1/3 so I had 1.8 grams of salt harmalas and now I have 0.6 grams of freebase

keep in mind - a salt would weigh more than a freebase

Does the dosage vary because of the chemical change?
