Salutations nexians,

One's walrus is contemplating another extraction soon, doesn't really like messing around with NaOH pellets and the like, but has himself a 5M stock solution of 99% pure NaOH which will be much more convienient.

This Walrus' chemistry is rusty, one wonders how much 5M NaOH needs to be added to 4.5L of dH20 to make a sufficiently basic solution for which the MHRB will bath in....

Given that the general consensus on the Noman tek is 15mls dH20 per 1g NaOH per 1g MHRB, which if using pellets would require 500g of NaOH for 500g of MHRB, which works out to a 2.7M solution if ones walrus is not mistaken? This would therefore mean that 2430mls of 5M stock NaOH would be added to 2070mls of dH20 to make up the required concetration......correct?

Many thanks in advance,

Methtical

Alright the molecular weight of NaOH is approx 40g/mol so for a 5M solution thats 200g NaOH and the solution made up to the litre mark with distilled water. To measure out 500g of NaOH use 2.5L of your premixed 5M solution and then dilute out to the desired volume. So you were spot on.
