Hey all.
I'm considering trying a Caapi/Chacruna tea. I've read different views on dieting before doing this, and I know there are ideas on both sides.

Does anyone know a practical / pharmacological reason that many dietas forbid salt? I know that foods that contain tyramine but I can't think of why salt would effect the experience negatively. Any ideas?

I can't quote you any studies, but I can tell you that from experience, ayahuasca (and many other natural psychedelics) help/make me hydrate more, sometimes a LOT more. If you've salted your system a lot beforehand, it might make this experience stressful.

Good hydration=health. I'm not sure salt would affect the experience negatively, especially psychologically, but I believe that it would help give a more "clear" experience.

I think a lot of the dieta recommendations don't come from a place of "it's dangerous." I think that's a common misconception, especially here on the nexus. I think those recommendations are more to help make the experience clearer and smoother, and actually are largely directed toward patients who are in need of healing on all levels (hence the dieta) and not just looking for a spiritual experience.

Ah ok putting it that way makes a lot more sense. Any other plants or fungus i've worked with put me in a state where it feels weird to consume anything including water and I do feel incredibly wiped out and dehydrated after.

I'm planning on trying a 50 gram caapi tea this weekend (my first caapi tea above 10 grams) to acquaint my body with the vine so I want to make sure I don't sabotage myself. Much appreciated for the explanation!

I've heard that salt grounds and brings you back. So avoiding it should make you more sensitive to the medicine.

Salt is just too plentiful in our diet these days. If there would be no NaCl in concentrated form, as we know it, there would be no reason to "diet" it.

the who "recommends" a daily maximum of 6g salt for an adult... i was baffled by that and tried to figure out if i could find the minimum daily need and... while too lazy to google again... i remember it being 30mg of Na a day.

i am also more or less testing it and i try to go "salt" free on a regular basis. no negative side-effects after over a year of doing so.

as rule of thumb: every substance, that is extracted from its natural matrix while leaving fibre/water behind, turns into a drug. hello dmt Pleased
