Harmaline was chosen because of the fanciest crystal form like a feather, a double lancet with a cross in the middle. Then comes numerous variations on that base form.
Tiny amount of harmaline was dissolved in a drop of vinegar. The ratio is important for visual clue, trial and error. Then a drop of ammonia (12%) was added to freebase the harmaline. It's in situ.

1) after basing a cloud of 'dust' forms immediately, I suppose that are micro tiny crystals. You can see the cloud traveling, there is no draft or tilt, the cloud seems to move from denser regions toward less dense regions;
2) out of that cloud a bigger crystal emerges;
3) the cloud seems to dissolve again in the vicinity of the bigger crystal, and the bigger crystal seems to harvest the goodies to grow bigger. You notice a clear halo around the bigger crystals like the cloud dissolves slowly near it;
4) the whole cloud has disappeared and the bigger crystals stop growing;
5) the clip end with the base form of a harmaline crystal.

This cloud-to-crystal might explain why after basing an acidic rue tea with NaOH, all 'milk' fell straight trough the coffee filter. I filtered immediately and it did not work. I think it was still too much in "cloud" form. Wait for some hours, filter the tea and nothing fell trough anymore. The crystals were grown by then.
