Welcome Area chat is usually pretty quiet.

You generally have hang out for a while and wait for someone to notice that there is a new post in there but eventually someone will reply. Don't give up after a few minutes. Hanging out in chat is an excellent way for people get to know you and that helps expedite votes for promotion.

Dont give up after not getting a reply for 30 secs

It is a full 2 min and 30 sec, that is a game changer
