So I found a note on the ground today when walking my dog, and it was talking about a guy in Kenya who had been trying to dry his (carbonate) product with acetone, but then realized it was denatured. Is he pretty much boned?

The note said that it formed a white, cloudy precipitate in what had been a pretty much clear liquid.

Shit.

denatorium benzoate is an utterly bitter substance used to render the alcohol undrinkable, maybe even toxic.

I would be wary consuming/smoking anything containing denatorium.

ps to OP, is it about cacti extraction or I should move this thread somewhere else?

Cacti. The note talked about the man having tried the carbonate salting tek with some limonene that was no longer pulling anything with vinegar. It was slow to evaporate, so he added some acetone to the last 20mL or so to try and speed things up.

Is denatorium benzoate toxic to ingest, or does it just taste bad?

Well, it hard to find much on the toxicity of denatonium on the web. The Pubchem depository has a record for denatonium where it states that it induces uriticaria and asthma.

It seems that it won't kill you but still I'd avoid eating it.

Eww. More disappointing than anything else, since SWIM wasn't really expecting a yield here but wanted to see if the tek would work. I wonder what make the mixture so cloudy?
