I've experimented three psychedelics so far. First magic mushrooms, then lsd, then dmt. From what I've heard about people's experiences, theirs seem to be more visual while mine are more about communicating with the substance. I've done high doses of psilocybin, lsd, and dmt, and from what I've heard from my friends and online experiences. My experiences seem to lack (for the most part) the visual qualities that most other people experience. I was wondering why this happens to me. If anyone has answers let me know. I am rather skinny, and friends of mine who've tripped with me and are heavier, bigger, stronger, taking the same dose as I, experience what they describe as very noticeable visuals, while I sometimes see patterns on the dotted roof of my house and on the floor and grass. I've been knocked out cold by mushrooms and layed on the floor for unknown times, proceeding to wake up with a large breath, as if I was drowning and rose to the surface to get a big breath, thinking "Im alive" "Where the hell was I", and other thoughts that I can't recall. These knocked out cold experiences have been some of my most enjoyable trips. I don't know why, I tend to forget a lot of what happens during trips as well. Has anyone here experienced these same things I've experienced? Anyone else here rarely get visuals? I do get visuals sometimes but it's not like they last a prolongued amount of time or anything they're usually very temporary, and sometimes what some would define as visuals I would describe as seeing differently, perhaps colors look different, I see the world as it is for the most part during my trips (when I'm awake that is) I have never seen a friends face distorted or turn into a monster (not that I would want to), they always look like my friends.
The one psychedelic where I've seen indescribable visuals is dmt. Mostly with eyes closed. To me dmt is the most visual of all the psychedelics I've tried, but it tends to happen so fast for me and I always wanna stay there longer, and I usually forget everything or most of what I saw even though I try to recall it.

There is so much unknown about psychedelics, that it is a loaded question to even ask what is a "normal" response to them.
Some people require substantially more of the same substance to feel the same effect as others.

As for the blackouts, are you on any medications? Drinking or mixing substances can have weird interactions.
Also, everyone has different brain chemistry, and no two people or experiences are the same.
I know a friend who is completely immune to psilocybin mushrooms, even at monster doses.
If I were you I would try focusing on the minds effects, and not get hung up on getting trippy visuals,
and see where that takes you.

It may be you are just wired differently, and won't get the same visuals as your friends get, ever.
Or maybe the psychedelics want you to ignore the pretty colours and go deep into your own mind.
You may be rewarded for not focusing on the visuals and just letting them do their thing.

If you feel something is wrong or scary with the "blacking out" maybe see a Dr.
Having a sitter for your trips would be good advice if this is a recurring theme.
A sitter may also be able to help you stay awake and see the visuals, if that's your goal.
High doses of DMT and mushrooms will cause a trance, that is similar to sleeping/dreaming, for me.

Psychedelics are still such a mystery, what is normal?

Be safe,
I hope you find what you seekBig grin

I wouldn't call them blackouts, I think that's a negative word, like describing someone that's drunk and is in physical danger. I do not feel in physical danger when I leave this world. I'm just not in this world and I forget most or everything that I see/feel/communicate wherever it is I go to. Maybe I have been in physical danger but I'm a nutjob and don't know it. It's a very difficult thing to describe and I haven't ingested mushrooms in a long time so I've forgotten how that is like. I don't mix anything. I only ingest psychedelics and never mix them. I don't use pharmaceuticals either. I do not want a trip sitter. I love to trip alone. I think it's the best way to trip. Also in darkness. And no, I do not want to stay awake with psilocybin. I think getting knocked the fuck out by mushrooms is part of the experience. Some people call it dreaming/sleeping I call it getting KTFO cause the mushrooms don't give you a choice. They tell you to lie face down on the floor/grass.

I'm not dissapointed or anything with psychedelics, I'm just curious as to why I don't get visuals like other people when I've taken what is considered a high dose in all of the psychedelics that I've done. Especially when I'm such a light person. I weigh around 120-130 pounds. Sometimes I think that my brain is just different or that my pineal gland needs to be decalcified. Sometimes I think I have a mental condition and I don't know it. Other times I think that the visuals are just a distraction from the real message that psychedelics are communicating.

Watch some trippy videos made for psychedelic use. There are lots of videos on youtube. Zone out on those videos and see if you get a visual response that you want. These videos can be quite a bit of fun if your in the mood for them

Do you have auditory hallucinations? Listen to some trippy music and close your eyes? CEV can be very intense with some music. I often use music as a grounding. It's easy to get into a strong trance and lose track of everything. Music is great for grounding. I prefer music with no lyrics. Words get jumbled up in my mind when I'm tripping hard.

Create a ceremony for yourself when you decide on taking this heavy doses. This has helped me quite a bit when I incorporated this into my psychedelic practices. This also can provide some grounding. Use some tobacco or maybe smoke some weed for further grounding.

Just from reading your post I feel like that is your core issue. Don't worry too much about what you think you should be seeing. Comparing your experiences to others will only provide irritation. Just ride your own wave and focus on yourself. Drop the expectations. Relax. Go into these experiences wanting to see whatever you like. Allow your mind to create the visuals and try and stay present and grounded. It's so easy to drift off into oblivion and lose all track of the self. That is my number one advice to you is to ground yourself.

You're not alone. Visuals are a large part of my own experiences but I have met people who have never had visuals of any kind on anything. Even out in the jungle with ayahuasca, they saw nothing and they were very disappointed by it. If you're communicating with the substance - and most likely with yourself - without any visual aspect then I say that's okay. It's not entirely unusual and really, who do you have to please? No one but yourself. If you're satisfied with the form your inner trip takes then that's all that matters.

Yes this is perfectly normal.

My tantra teacher said there are two types of people: visual and kinestetic. Visual people are the ones who "see auras", have OEVs etc. Kinestetic people don't see stuff but rather feel it throughout their body - tingling sensations, pressure etc.

I would recommend Ayahuasca. Every experience with it is unique though, sometimes visual, sometimes just "body trip" and sometimes mental/contemplative (at least from my experience).

You can try yoga or bodywork to relax your neck, back. I guess this somehow helps with "evergy flow" throughout your body. I witnessed people getting visuals from breathwork alone when they got their neck muscles relaxed by applying a temporary pressure.

I do get tingling sensations. I feel like mother earth is filling me with love. Pumping waves of love into me.
