Welcome symbolic,
From my experience and research so far, I have a few suggestions for you. Some of these are my own opinion, but are also shared by many others.
First, keep the eyes closed. When you open your eyes during, it can be very confusing. Unless you're full breakthrough, in which case you won't remember how to open your eyes, or even that you're a human living on earth.
Second, try low lighting in a quiet room. Some prefer music. I prefer near darkness with ear plugs in order to be sensory deprived. Though I do have soft light in my room.
Third, lay down or recline. Definitely don't try to walk around. This could be dangerous if you go out completely.
Lastly, finding courage is always hard, and pre-flight anxiety effects many travelers. Try some meditation before hand. Deep breathing, focusing on the breath. And always remember, no matter what happens, you'll be back in your body in a matter of minutes.
Check out the FAQ on this site. It's very useful.
Peace
