Hi folks, I'm Nosferatu, or Nos4a2 for short. Twisted Evil

I've been into the hobbies since I was a teenager, starting with online research, I spent many years just reading until I was an adult and had the right to take the risk to put my research to good use. I have some Horticultural Education in my past, Tech School and College.

I started my first Mycology project about 8 years ago and have been a part of the Online Mushroom Communities for just as long, under a different name.

I have done about 5 DMT extractions in the past 8 years but as of lately have gotten back into it and found I enjoy it very much, especially the crystallization aspect, it truly is an art form.

I use a STB tek using MHRB powder or shredded, pull with naptha, wash with Sodium Carbonate during the re-crystallization process and Heptane as well. I have found when I freeze precipitate, even after re-crystallizing, after I pour off the solvent I get a goo that forms while my crystals are drying. This has caused a problem with filtering, typically I use a small about 1 pint flat pyrex baking dish with a lid that can fit in the freezer for my re-crystallizing so I haven't needed to really filter the solvent as much as carefully pour it off. But now I am using very small jars I found at a dollar store and find not all the xtals are sticking to the sides of the jars. So, I'd like to be able to filter the solvent this time when I pour it off and last time I tried this when it dried I had goop that stuck to the coffee filter, wasn't very good. Can anyone recommend a good filtering paper? Preferably one I can get locally? I do have a buchner funnel with filter paper, but unfortunately it's in storage among a ton of other shit and I don't wanna try to find it. So apart from that, what could I use and where do I buy it?

Thanks in advance, i've been to this site many times throughout the years for info and finally took the time to register over the weekend. I'm about 30 questions into that long ass questionaire lol. Thumbs up

Why dont you use a seringe to remove the goo off the top layer before filtering your solvent? That would prevent crystals to be stuck to it in the coffe filter.

Cool your solvent more slowly to get bigger crystals - actually, google "Ostwald ripening". Good luck!

Not sure if you understood, the goo got extracted with the DMT, you can't even tell it's there until the solvent is dissolved.

I kind of figured it out last night, when I was recrystallizing I was forgetting to the let solvent cool down before pouring it into another container and leaving the trash/slag behind. Today when I poured the solvent off I was left with the whole bottom of the jar full of powder/crystals that dried much better, I'm not recrystallizing it with heptane and we'll see what we get.

Aha, first allow the solvent to drain off while having replaced the container back into the freezer?

Also, some say that doing your pulls too warm increases the amount of goo.

I actually read about the Ostwald Ripening process and have been using it. Room temp, fridge freezer. After a day or two of this I start letting it evaporate slowly while continuing the process.

I had something weird happen this go around after using the salt tek. I would add Naptha and shake the hell out of my jars, later after letting the emulsions settle it kept seeming like there was less Naptha in there yet I could see no Emulsions, also I wasn't heating my jars because like you said Naptha above 130 causes way more goo.. So I add more Naptha and try to mix it with the visible Naptha to make it easier to pull what was already in there. Then I wasn't getting much after letting those pulls evap. Well on what I thought would be my last pull I decided to warm up the jars and low and behold, I had huge layers of Naptha come to the surface... lol Also I pulled it all and Evap'd it down to a precipitatable amount and then commenced the Ostwald Ripening. After about a day and a half or two I poured off the Naptha and I was left with the whole bottom of the jar had a pile of powder/crystals with almost no Goo.. Very strange, it seems I was pulling mostly goo out in the beginning while the salt created it's own secret stash of DMT filled Naptha in murky depths of the basified MHRB powder. Very interesting.
