Sometimes, mushrooms give me these twitches. I don't think it's psychological. Not even subcounscious or something. It feels very much like a physical reaction.

Maybe it has to do with the vasoconstriction. That it's a sort of natural response to increase circulation, just like with coldness.

I'm with dragonrider, I would occasionally get mild twitches with the comeup of mushrooms and even worse with weed. Although they were hard to control, they definitely felt like a physical reaction, my body felt uncomfortable like wearing multiple long sleeve shirts. Never too much to worry about and stretching seemed to help (see image for proper technique).

A friend of mine had tourettes tics that he told me ceased for long after each time he smoked dmt

and also I remember being 14 and speaking with another friend of mine about our twitching, which I think was due to being extremely high on pot and not realizing its physiological effects on us were severe

I experience these same twitches when entering REM as well as sometimes while drifting off to sleep. I never considered that they were a byproduct of PTSD. But since I do have PTSD, I suppose it fits. Interesting.
Nothing is no thing at all.

Are you familiar with Somatic Experiencing (SE) therapy?

I have a friend who's an SE Therapist, and in talking with her about her work and the intersection of psychedelics and trauma and all that, we got to talking about the somatic effects/symptoms of processing PTSD.

For me, on aya, but also on mushrooms, I get leg tremors that sound incredibly similar to what some of the SE clients go through when processing their trauma. I've not been diagnosed with PTSD (I also haven't gone seeking diagnosis) but my adult life has presented a handful of life and death situations that I've worked hard to process, both on my own and via therapy. I've found tremendous aid via psychedelics as well.

One of the things that strikes me as interesting about the tremors and "bleeding off" this "excess energy" or w/e it is, is that it usually feels somewhat optional. Like, a mild tremor will start when I'm lying down and I have some say in how much I let that tremor reinforce itself in a loop of spasming, where it can build in intensity, or resisting it a bit and ultimately making it subside. I've found that letting go into the loop can end up feeling quite cathartic and that after the tremor, or series of tremors, subsides, it usually doesn't re-occur, at least not during that trip.

In talking with my friend, she said this is remarkably similar to some of the work they do in the SE therapy, which I found very interesting, especially given my experiential catharsis. I don't know that it's the same thing, I don't know that it's tied to PTSD, I do know that I've found it to be a pretty powerful aid for processing some of my own crap. I'd encourage people to see if they can find a way to work with it and see what happens, if that feels right to you Smile

This.

I've experienced this off and on for a number of years with lsd, cacti, mushrooms, pharma, aya, pretty much everything. It mainly stays in my legs, and sometimes my arms. Doesn't happen all the time though sometimes. Definitely a consistency.

The 'bleeding off' thing you mentioned sounds pretty right to me, based on what I've experienced and how it felt at those times, and mentally how it felt to connect with those moments. It's always been mostly on the comeup for leading up to the peak of the experience. It would build and build, then die off, build and build, die off [waves], and it did this as the overall experience intensified heading towards the peak.
