I've been told that the proper substance to use for basifying after a zinc reduction is sodium carbonate, because using lye causes a reaction that yields unwanted molecules. I know tsp is slightly better than sodium carbonate in basidity, and id rather use it than go through the trouble of making sodium carb, as I already have tsp lying around. Any thoughts? Possible bad molecules created?
