Meditation is said to be a kind of trance. This is one way, a kind of calming, relaxing way, generally with minimum stimulation of the senses.

There's an another extreme, the Active Trance, overstimulation, overwhelming, explosive Trance. The one you reach dancing.

Both are interesting, some people have more affinity for one or another. But in my social-contest, i see everywhere "meditation this, meditation that", or anykind of calm and relax spiritual activity (and business...).

And The other Trance? None (even in trance party i see few people entering in trance) So Let's speak about it !
On the dancefloor or alone in your room, do you ever enter in trance? Did you ever reached this critical point where you can move every muscle in a frenetic way, faster and faster, without feeling any tiredness?

Could you share anything about how it work for you ? do you close your eyes, do you use breathing patterns, how long does it take, "where" your mind go ? Can you share a music track that would typically be appropriate for that?

I share a small text i wrote about this process - how i envision it... ( Using Trance music, progressive trance, ... )

Quote:
Feel the heartbeat on the ground, the circulating energy creating a giant vortex of gravity field
Get nearer to the ground, feel it’s Pulse, feel your guts getting push to the earth as the energy is pumped up through your root chakra. This is the Universe primordial pulse, the essential rhythm, this is creation of duality, division of your cell, Expansion of the Root. This is your BASE.

Faster and faster, visualize this rhythm as a spinning energy going up , weaving a DnA string, curving with the melody, getting denser, more intricate, more intense, you prepare to exit this atmosphere. As you reach the climax, bring it up through your whole body, ejaculate through your crown chakra, the DNA string of energy reach the Sky, Fishing the light from the Star- you enter the Void, The silent journey out of time, It’s The Mystery of the Break, the suspension, the realm of infinite desire, The tongue stretching for a drop of Ambrosia…
Feel the desire grow, speeding up, stretching time, Feel the imminence of The Happening, anticipate the impact, Be ready and jump at the right moment, To touch the earth as the Base Collapses on the ground, Jump on the BaseLine, Ride it as you ride a giant snake of sound, grooving through the dance floor, It’s entering you, you have to deal with it, make it rise through your spine, faster and faster, higher and higher you start again the infinite process driving life to the next level, to the next Trance and Dance.

As magnets push against each other, as alternative current between sky and ground, their opposition grow faster as they fusion, your anger get crushed against your willpower, your joy squeezes out orgasmic. You transcend Duality to become Life itself.

Tips.
Alpha - Start beating he rhythm with your feet, shake all your muscle. Warm up.
Beta - Break free of all conception about dance, of the vision of others, of esthetic patterns. Let your body decide himself the movement he need to do, give control to your muscles & nerves. This is the real healing power (Do the movement not for any other purpose than the movement itself. Freestyle yoga dynamic)
Gamma - Start a fast breathing pattern - IN IN OUuuut for exemple (breath of fire). You will need extra oxygen.
Delta - You can use repetitive movement, faster, stronger. You start to be tired, dizzy, out of air. That’s the key moment. It require this Essential Spark of WillPower. This is your Test. Get over it.
OMEGA - You did it long enough (10 minutes to 1h ….. ). Something will happen. You not tired anymore. Your whole body, pulsating in rhythm, is over-flood with incredible amount of energy that you don’t know what to do with, let all your muscles shakes, expulse, radiate this energy in a psychedelic storm dance - at this point your mind is switching faster and faster, like a slot machine, faster and faster, you entering the Trance State, the trance&dance of duality in Unity, for Life to happen. Enjoy

Thx Smile

Hey Quetzal,

Great post but I'm thinking your premise may be mislabeled?
To me what you are describing would be entering ecstatic or revelatory states, not trance.
Isn't trance more about being asleep at the wheel? The opposite of being awakened?
Going about one's day without self-reflection is being entranced - entrained by our own patterns, kinda like how molecules just bounce about. Automatons. Cause and effect, reaction, no will, no active engagement.

Breaking out of the frame though, that's release from trance. Breaking out of successive frames, one after another after another, more and more quickly, that is the orgasmic, as you describe in the physical dancing. To me that's to be fully self aware. When I'm engaged in psychdelic research, or even without psychedelics, coming to rapid successions of understanding or being the band leader in a parade of thoughts - the strange attractor in chaos - that is ecstatic to me. And so reaches a singularity, and pow! like being shot out from a cannon (must be the bass drop... hehe), into the next frame. But this to me isnt a trance, it's being fully awakened and engaged and dancing with life.

I haven't explored or analyzed too much on this topic yet but there is a beautiful cultural history to attaining ecstatic states through dance: think whirling dervishes. Or these sufi dancers (I dig this video):

This is in Chechnya. Pretty intense. I've had a tiny taste of this dancing around the Bima with a group of Lubavitcher Chasidim during Simchat Torah. But in the relative safety of hometown, USA... not quite the same but similar. I remember feeling a vortex and an uplifting, like an electric cloud shimmering over my body during this. All sorts of synapses reserved for ecstatic states started firing.

At home I'll spark up some great shatter and put on the Parliment Funkadelic, and have a personal dance party. I imagine the music is emanating from my movement, more so how it is being mixed, and turns into a synaethesic experience. My waving arms and fingers are at the mixing council, treble here, bass there, chest and hips, midrange there. Eyes close and my frame of reference melts out. The room disappears and I and the vibrations of the music are dancing together. Eyes closed I see swirling lights pulsing to rhythms, modulations in timbre and bass, drums, horns and vocals. As my imagination is actively engaged, I'm definitely not asleep: instead more awake and fully aware than ever.

It could be just a rhetoric thing but that's why I hesitate to call it trance, or even active trance.
Regardless: Feels so good!

Nice video !!! i participated to some Sufi workshop (for beginners, more like a preview, introduction) - it's an interesting source of inspiration (but for me it's hard to follow any frame in this aspects... )

I didn't know Trance would suggest asleep or unconscious - i always associate to any deep change in consciousness - with a wide range of options

But anyway, we know what we are speaking about - this energetic, synesthesic, intense ecstatic fusion with the music Smile

Thank for sharing !

Cool topic!

I've always considered excitatory trance to be trance, where the key is getting the mind to a single (or no) pointed focus, same as you might hope to attain with inhibitory trance.

Ecstatic dancing is certainly one form of this. For me really driving music that I listened to when I was young, like punk, Ministry or Slayer'esque metal does it for me.

Spinning is another, like Allokais mentioned. I don't use this one cause I hate being dizzy and get dizzy at the drop of a hat lol.

Repetitive drumming can effectively get you there.

Other, more inhibitory but still physical methods of trance can be flow arts, like spinning poi or swimming in a repetitive way. I even trance out when throwing a football over and over (and I have the best spiral of any late-30's lady out there as a result of using it for focusing the mind lmfao).

Plus, there's always shorter acting methods of trance, if you intend to use the gnosis towards some specific goal. Orgasm and pain are the most effective of those in my experience.

Most my my experience with learning forms of trance come from a waxing and waning (currently waxing in a whole new light) 20+ year interest in chaos magick. There's a lot of good information for modern versions of excitatory and inhibitory trance in magick books.

Hi Continuum!

I smiled to your words Chaos Magick! I started exploring coupling gnosis with specific goals and doing sigil work a few years ago. Yes, waxes and wanes, I understand: everything for me comes and goes in waves and cycles, the patterns return but always a little different - hopefully I’ve been smart enough along the way to pick up Wisdom hitch-hiking by the side of the road.

Setting up the trance for me in my practice, orgasms both physical and mental play an active role. There are some contradictions for me, doing what I can to be skeptical and using critical thinking, which is so antithetical to the Magick. Well, I’d given it whirl, even if for a laugh, and the proof was in the pudding.

Quick story: it was impossible to find parking when dropping off my son to school in the mornings. Dozens and dozens of cars circling the blocks for a coveted spot. I decided to develop a relationship with the Parking Gods, which I openly (jokingly) shared with my son. I started doing sigil work for this, being playful to create a parking servitor; and when I relaxed about it, for weeks and weeks in a row we always found a parking spot, first tries, never having had to circle endlessly the blocks anymore. Circumstances may have been suspect. The odd car would run the stop sign, so I’d have to wait, or I’d get slowed up by a garbage truck. But then, as soon as we got the block with the school, a car would pull out leaving me a spot!

I could infer coincidence, there was no Magick at all, though my sample size seemed large enough, at least a hundred car trips in a row with parking on the first shot. Or it could be wishful thinking, and totally random against all odds, or my servitors aren’t real at all, but the Coincidence Control Operators in John Lilly’s books are REAL. Hehe…

My son and I would both laugh as I praised aloud, “The Parking Gods have shown us favor and blessed us again! All hail, all praise the Parking Gods!” The irony, the days when we were late or I was feeling harried, stressed or worried, we ended up walking for blocks.

My go to trance method for me to get to an intellectual orgasm is based mostly on etymology, digging in deeper and deeper into the fountain and origins of words, making connections between sounds, their meanings, where they came from, how they might even tie into written ideograms, glyphs or cave paintings. It’s an intellectual pursuit, and the frames of understanding start opening and swirling. Much like a dance.

Now I can’t say that I get to a single point of focus, but once my mind feels saturated with the connecting web of words, figures, and sounds, I will use cannabis, much like a sacrament, and start painting with music. My internal argument becomes the dance as I paint and become one with my painting process. Figures begin to emerge from my painting. I am lost to the outside world during these moments, but am fully engaged. It may be just a matter of rhetoric then, but this could be my excitatory trance state.

Glad that you responded Continuum!
Kind regards,
Alloklais

Highly interesting thread!

I first got into trance states when I received some MXE. Combined with cannabis, that was perfect introspection and utter weightlessness, but completely lucid, and fearless. Amazing, but definitely not sustainable, so I have let the MXE go, and just rely on music (mostly African traditional) and cannabis now.

I kid you not, within a week of finishing 'The Scientist', and still deeply befuddled by everything I had just read, I got chatting to a guy in an airport, while waiting for a connection. The conversation moved to books, and the last one we had each read, so I just kinda mumbled "A science author called John Lilley, still not sure what it was about, TBH..." and he just looked at me and smiled:

"Well, I'll be...! I spent two years working with that crazy old sonofabitch in St Thomas! Man, was he out there or what?!"

Along similar lines, perhaps, I first encountered the word 'sigil' yesterday, in a review of the 'Traditional Sorcery Course' by Thor Templar, and now up pops a bona-fide example from consensus reality...Shocked

Do you do any yoga or pranayama? Cannabis and yoga is my favorite combination for trance work, and a pretty much given for getting in an altered frame of mind before ritual, or just to get in an altered frame of mind just because.

On a board like the Nexus, we can't forget about the role psychedelics and other sacraments play in trance and magickal trance.

I recently had an incredible experience combining Magick and 300ug 1P LSD and my very first Burn, a regional in the Southeast. The entire Burn, leading up to the pinnacle effigy burn, was the most amazing experience I've had, on par with, well anything.

A few weeks before the Burn, I tried an aya analouge for the first time (30 mg DMT freebase + 150 mg harmine + 150 mg of THH, converted to salt in oj) and had some insights either during or over the next day about setting an intention for the Burn experience.

I started getting my head to a good space by waking up an hour early for sitting and Sun Salutations out on the deck, stopping taking kratom extracts, and canna-yoga sessions for insights as to what my intentions really were.

Everything started flowing from there.

I cast several sigils about smaller pieces of the Burn, and made the main Statement of Intent for the trip: * I integrate the positive insights and changes I've felt internally into my day to day life. * Cast on gnosis with a mantra.

Saturday afternoon, Burn day, my partner and I climbed the effigy with a marker and wrote our final sigil Casts on the wood, later to watch it go up in flames.

In the early evening, we took our first 100 ug of 1P-LSD and started walking.

Along the way, my partner, my twin dragon, ducked off and I was waiting for him to return. A person standing next to me asked if I wanted to select a rune from a bag of pieces that had been collected in Black Rock City. Why, of course!

I pulled a rune from the bag, and waited for him to tell me what it meant. He then said back to me precisely my SOI, telling me that the Wunjo rune I had pulled meant that I had been cultivating joy, but had been unable to taste the fruits of my labor, but the rune meant that was all about to change.

Time to walk to the hill to watch the Burn. Better take our second 100ug of the 1P, and why not follow up with the third once we're seated for the show. Cool

The fire conclave and lighting ritual was powerful. "Ha Ko Ra" the mantra while the Goddess with the fire on their heads and the fire spinners embodied the primal archetype...

And the fire begins...embers floating up, up, up, the fire enchantingly beautiful. The fire represented letting go of everything unnecessary, the impermanence of life, the archetype of human existence, and everything changed.

I saw the world with eyes unclouded by hate.

When the structure was down, We sat by the fire. I felt more whole, more like me than every before, while feeling totally different. I sat and layed next to the embers like a mother tending her baby, knowing that all I'd hoped to manifest was coming to pass in that magnificent fire.

Chan, hi
Nice connection to John Lilly! Your post sent me in a dozen happy directions to gather some threads together here. Please have fun with this. I was a youngster when I became interested in John Lilly, and took a summer job as a teenager at a flotation-isolation tank business some thirty plus years ago, trading work hours for float time. This was my introduction to dream type trance through sensory isolation. I can remember the smell of salt and chlorine from the tanks, my body buoyed, the lapping of water and a hollow, tunnel like inhale-exhale. It took some time to get comfortable, but eventually I'd drift off, not to sleep but like I'd stop feeling the water on my skin. I never really got to any hallucinatory states (Altered States was my favorite movie then, inspired me to seek out the isolation tanks), though I remember engaging the darkness with an activated imagination. It was sort of like dreaming with my eyes open in the dark. And suddenly the trap door would open, time to get out. Time must have compressed.

A handful of years later I was introduced to Sigils through discovering Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and the culture jamming projects of Genesis P. Orrige. Our circle started doing experiments with snow on the TV (haven't seen TV snow in yeas!?), playing with stimulants and psychedelics, watching forms and figures emerge from the visual noise. It was hypnotic, trance inducing - highly stimulating, but not with warm, fuzzy vibes: no, it was creepy and ominous to me then, like the forms were entities trying to get out of the TV. In the end I couldn't stomach the spookiness, and these ideas and psychedelics went into hibernation for decades.

Only a few years ago I started exploring cannabis again, renewed my interests in Burroughs, re-discovered Robert Anton Wilson, Terrence McKenna, et al and started following this path. I would learn that Psychic TV was closely tied in with ideas of Chaos Magick, and then I started exploring A.O. Spare, Sigils and trance states again.

These coincidences for you, especially concerning sigils, what may be seems that which has found you now (is it a projection, casting our own patterns - what the thinker thinks the proover proves?), today I was thinking on this, and RAWs TTOTT; the Tale of the Tribe, RAWs last and unfinished body of work. TTOTT speaks to the constellation of the thought leaders and personalities that explore and make the fringes bright and tear the rifts in the consensus. When we tap in, we find the affinities and common signals. Buckminster Fuller, Joyce, and my hero Giordano Bruno, itinerant Dominican friar, philosopher, and magician. The Inquisition burned Bruno as a heretic at the stake, Bruno having postulated an infinite universe, and all things contrary to Church dogma. "My thoughts are stitched to the stars!" Anyone burned at the stake seems to me important and to be listened to! The most prophetic voices seem to be the most hated ones.

When I meditate on the TTOTT, we are the threads and lights coalescing around this strange attractor, this carrier signal, like fire flies chasing pheromones.

As I mentioned dancing with etymology and the origins of words in relation to alphabets as one of the ways I get into an intellectual trance state. During these moments I start conveying and ascribing my intention into a sigil of my making The word sigil has its origins in the word seal. Who is sealing the sigil? Me? The Universe? Some God? (Maybe a DMT entity? ... hmmmm) Through permutations, written sigils can become like letters in an alphabet, which carries the origins of the intentions.

Does it work? I don't know, but I have a damned good time. And anecdotally seems to work for me. Nothing so serious. The Parking Gods. Assistance in opening up, developing discipline, or getting a great work opportunity aligned. The last year or so I've been keeping diaries of my sigils and operations, intentions and results, if they ever happen. Getting to the next level of trance, into an even deeper, more excited and revelatory state to charge up the sigil work, I am wondering if DMT for me may be part of this exploration? I've read here on the Nexus these launches into hyperspace with wonderful narratives about machines, which have the feeling to me of gears in a giant clock, running and driving the Universe and its creation. I wonder if a sigil's creation and action may be both the media and the message contained therein to throw some switches in the DMT world? Or at least relay the message to the entities in charge? I suspect if wanted to believe this, it may well become true for me. Would that be delusional? But what if it really works! Or be the butt of the cosmic joke. That's an exploration for the future. Smile

That sounds great! I do a little bit of yoga, nothing too serious, but nice to do with Cannabis, feel all sorts of nuances in the movement and stretch, deepens the tingles. But I never considered it for getting into trance. I should!

Quote:

I've been gun shy to get deeper with psychedelics and magickal trance, but clearly to me I'm heading further in this direction. I haven't yet done any operations while using psychedelics. The things that go bump in the night, I still get the jitters - like I sense things unseen ... I don't know, shadow energies? traces ... when I trip. So learning how I suppose to put my head in the mouth of the lion...getting more grounded...I think in compassion, to make a stronger, ritual connection supported with psychedelics in a Magickal operation work for me.

Wow, that sounds exciting. I don't know the term Burn. Is this a contemporary Chaos Magick gathering? Do you belong to an Order? I can imagine it's like a Wickerman event? Like the ritual of the Burning Man festival?

This sounds amazing! Was the gathering focused on any particular diety, or was it open to full interpretation? A Fire Goddess? I can only imagine what energies were being invoked and felt.

Thank you for sharing this. You mentioned integrating some positive insights? What were they?
How will you work with these gifts from the experience?

I've noticed in myself since I've started to smoke cannabis again, and to experiment with psychedelics again, my choices are becoming more ... about compassion. About helping others. A handful of years ago, this wasn't even in the radar. But now, as beastly as my work is, I found time to start volunteer teaching and mentoring at a local high school, and have started to become more involved in my community as well. I attribute this growing social awareness to the psychedelics. Seems natural, the same way it became the foundations for Richard Alpert / Ram Dass.

Ram Dass has been working with Dale Borglum of the LivingDying project, which is about compassion work and conscious dying movement. I have interests here. To my understanding death can pose a horrible, existential crisis for many. Somehow helping to alleviate that suffering may in the future become something for me. I've been thinking about volunteering at a hospice at some point.

So if trance, psychedelics and magick together can help make good things happen, a solid endeavor!

"Om Mani Padme Hum"

I use this mantra without fail to go at least into trance states.
Also very helpful for compassion (2 way street)

I like the technique you describe too, very tantric in nature. And of course mantravidhya is a yoga until the trance is well established, from there the mantra internalizes and takes the form of direct shakti herself.

Also pranayama and cessation of breath I have found to be the ultimate, direct path to all power of trance states and your Self. A branch of yoga known as kumbakha pranayama.

OM https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumbhaka

Edit: I just wanted to describe my process of mantravidhya real quick.
So for mantravidhya the goal is to attain mantra-caitanya, a state which is quite easy to achieve when on ayahuasca or mushrooms, but sober or just under the influence of cannabis, mantra-caitanya is an uphill climb(the merging of the mantra with the consciousness, the inherent meaning of the syllables become clear and manifest in their full significance)
Of course the meaning is food for contemplation, but during phases when (especially periods of time after mantra-caitanya which serves as the truth-standard for its invocation) I practice the tantric method of simply absorbing myself in the sound and sinking deep into the resonance and overtones. It is during that period of the sounds merging with consciousness that spontaneous mantra-caitanya (where the meaning itself merges) will happen, a state which shouldn't fail to convince you of your immense power as a human-being.

Hey Alloklais

I like your take on things, I've had similar observations, and also wonder how much more we could do to help those whose end is near... There's good evidence for psilocybin in this field, but it's continually suppressed.

If you feel like a break from the mighty P-Funk, I have been getting to some great places with this lately:

“I sometimes marvel at how far I’ve come - blissful, even, in the knowledge that I am slowly becoming a well-evolved human being - only to have the illusion shattered by an episode of bad behaviour that contradicts the new and reinforces the old. At these junctures of self-reflection, I ask the question: “are all my years of hard work unraveling before my eyes, or am I just having an episode?” For the sake of personal growth and the pursuit of equanimity, I choose the latter and accept that, on this journey of evolution, I may not encounter just one bad day, but a group of many.”

Hi Cubeananda,
So cool, thank you for sharing this. Do you know if the states attained through kumbakha pranayama or similar might relate to Grof's Holotropic breath work?
Also AO Spare used breath work to attain gnosis / trance in his magick.
More than 20 years ago I tried a re-birthing session - which used deep, intense and directed breathing. Unfortunately the session got interrupted just before breaking fully into the next frame / shift in consciousness. A couple weeks ago I was thinking about this, as Grof was just here doing a Holotropic breath workshop.

Is the kumbakha a regular part of a daily practice for you?

..... mantravidhya the goal is to attain mantra-caitanya, a state which is quite easy to achieve when on ayahuasca or mushrooms, but sober or just under the influence of cannabis, mantra-caitanya is an uphill climb(the merging of the mantra with the consciousness, the inherent meaning of the syllables become clear and manifest in their full significance)

Wow, that sounds amazing. I know intellectually about mantra work, I've done a little bit of chant work, but nothing so focused or immersive to bring about a trance.
Through mantravidhya can you describe any of the gifts you brought back or changes you made in your day-to-day life after attaining mantra-caitanya? Or did some synchronicity present itself to you after?

A handful of years later I was introduced to Sigils through discovering Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and the culture jamming projects of Genesis P. Orrige.... In the end I couldn't stomach the spookiness, and these ideas and psychedelics went into hibernation for decades.

So you go back to thee Temple ov Psychic Youth days, huh? I was not aware of that while it was going on, but have read a bit about it in the last several years.

I was introduced to magick by pure chance following a breakthrough does of mushrooms just before my 16th birthday, which would have been 1994. I knew nothing of psychedelic breakthroughs, magick or anything remotely close, but in the words of Bill Hicks, "Hy third eye was squeegeed quite clean."

The following year I was living in Austin, TX and had someone lend me a copy of Liber Null and Psychonaut, which was the first I knew of formal orders, groups practicing, etc. The z-Cluster and OTO were up and moving at that time too, plus Austin was (and probably still is) full of interesting folks.

Like you, I also mostly put it on the shelf for a very long time, coming back to it in the last few years too.

I hear ya...I don't do it often either, though I must say, my trust in my Allies is now deep and without doubt. Recent events have shown me that the plants were leading me towards something all along, and the relationship I have with them is not a one-way street.

The process of discovering which sacrament works for you with what type of ritual is a fun process. I find lysergamides to be excellent for invocation. Mescaline for cultivating compassion and works of healing, and aya analogues, particularly with caapi, for calling for inspiration. This is a relatively new path of exploration for me, and I'm quite excited to follow it and see where it goes.

Wow, that sounds exciting. I don't know the term Burn. Is this a contemporary Chaos Magick gathering? I can imagine it's like a Wickerman event? Like the ritual of the Burning Man festival?

The Burn is a regional Burning Man event. In this case, Transformus outside Asheville, NC. Not a Chaos Magick gathering, though it does seem to attract a certain kind of person Wink . I'm not familiar with a Wickerman event, but it sounds interesting. Care to enlighten me?

Do you belong to an Order?

I do not belong to an Order. I started MMM with the IOT a ways back, but my magickal practice just wasn't quite clicking at the time, pieces not quite fitting, so I stopped to practice alone more. Actually, the Burn blew my magickal practice wide open, and I suspect at some point I'll go back in that direction, but ironically, I found a partner to practice with who I have an uncanny link with, so I'm going to play around with that for a bit. You?

Quote:
This sounds amazing! Was the gathering focused on any particular deity, or was it open to full interpretation? A Fire Goddess? I can only imagine what energies were being invoked and felt.

The effigy was a Celtic Goddess, but I don't know which beyond that. I do know that a whole bunch of women started their periods early at the event, which was a funny little coincidence.

The energy being invoked was beyond anything I had felt before. Prior to the event, I hadn't really thought much on the effigy burn itself (though I'd thought about damn near everything else). I had no idea that 2500 people focusing on one point with altered perceptions could create such palpable energy. I absolutely mush experience the big burn...I imagine just about anything would be possible in the energy created with 65,000 people. Shocked

Thank you for sharing this. You mentioned integrating some positive insights? What were they?
How will you work with these gifts from the experience?

You mentioned how antithetical Magick is to logic and reason in an early post. One map of the territory I call up to keep my scientific mind appeased is considering magick to be a delicate manipulation of the tie between the Observer and the Observed. Sort of an observer created universe thing, and I think physics would agree that the divide between Me an Everything Else is not so clear as it may appear on the surface.

In returning to psychedelics and magick, I had a bunch of baggage to clean out from many years of bad decisions. Throughout the shadow work, collecting the soul shards, I noticed how strongly my reality and the people I encounter reflect back to me whatever is going on in me. It sounds cliched, I know, but discovering joy an becoming a positive light does transform the world around you.

Anything I could say about the effect the Burn had on me would both sound melodramatic and be an understatement at the same time. The joy is palpable.

Quote:

Absolutely! I think this may be a natural trajectory for most people, as we tend to be self-obesessed as young adults and grow to focus more on helping others and creating a better map of reality for everyone as we grow.

An enormous part of my practice (almost all of it) is dedicated to cultivating gratitude an compassion.

It's a small part, but I find great joy and grounding in helping spread teacher plants far and wide to backyard gardeners. The Allies have really given me joy, love...my life...back, and that chance has to be preserved for everyone who is called to it.

Thanks for this! I'm going to give this a go next time mushroom trip (and probably before, just so it will come naturally then).

One visualization I love it visualizing sound waves flowing through the space in each cell in the body, picturing just how little "stuff" actually exists, how it's pretty much all space...and loosing touch with where the boundary is between the body and the space within and surrounding space. Did you know that if the space was squeezed out of our cells, every person on the planet would fit in a sugar cube?

Guys... thank you so much for all this feedback ; this is all kind of things inspiring me so much

Nice synchronisity, because as i was researching about Chaos theory ( the scientific aspect of it , i m quite educated about it, but it's a big topic ) i found some stuff about chaos magick...
Then i come back to read this thread and here we go, chaos magick again.
I already read half Liber Null & psychonaut, it's perfect for me. I have already many tools on my magician table - meditation, dance, free singing, magic stick, tarot... and this put all together. This help me a lot to understand how to use my trance state !!

All classics, all great books. I have one more recommendation for you:
Advanced Magick For Beginners by Alan Chapman.

I got a lot of mileage and understanding out from Chapman's writing.
But like swimming or surgery, the best way to learn: practice Magick everyday.
A fun endeavor! Thumbs up Laughing

I thought about recommending that one too! Laughing

Andrieh Vitimus's Hands On Chaos Magick has some particularly good pranayama exercises ideas near the beginning too.

btw, does anyone know of a (free- I'm aware of Arcanorium, but it's a little rich for my blood) forum or place online to discuss chaos magick?

Maybe Chaos Magick subreddit over at Reddit ?

Wicker Man. Just like Burning Man, or a regional Burn, the setting on fire of an effigy as a spectacle and operation for a large festival / gathering. I think the event translation is pretty much universal now, especially with Burning Man having entered popular culture today.
There's a great 1970's cult movie The Wicker Man that plays to this Myth, occult practices that go back millenia on the United Kingdom, and involves human sacrifice. The movie popularized this notion.

Reminds me that bond fires can feel hypnotic and trance inducing. I imagine a large group fire feels like it carries an old message that is woven deeply into our experiential DNA. Down to a cellular level. I haven't used psychedelics at an event like this, but I'd like to. Big grin

Interesting topic. I would like to describe my own methods for going into trance.

First of all meditation ofcourse but especially standing meditation. It gives bodily discomfort at first and after a while this transforms into a powerful stimulant for keeping the trance.

But for me yoga works even better. I combine asanas with pranayamas like the bellows, breathretention, alternating nostrils, vertical abdominal rotation and OHM mantra. This is the result of years of practice. But it comes down to doing a posture and in this posture I'll do fast rythmic breathing followed with holding the breath and/ or releasing all breath then rotating the abdominal muscles sideways. Or any variety on this. When I'm comfortable and want to get deeper a long pronounced OHM mantra... This combination stirs up a lot of body processes and the mind is like a bear entranced to the honey.

Another is doing self-invented ceremonial magic. I cut all the things I don't understand (like hebrew) and just make up my own ritual based on what I do understand and performing it with care induces a kind of trance as well.

But the best for me is dancing. Some tunes just evoke the emotion of ecstasy in me and I feel like a tingling lightning rod. Though of all this method is a bit exhausting.

PS a bit off but still valuable is going for a walk in nature at night without lights. I get totally entranced in the now and actually don't feel cold anymore and notice better eyesight.
