Hello all! I am a new member here and am glad there is a spot for everyone to introduce themselves. I grew up as an average kid playing soccer and learning to rock climb. My interest for entheogens began after watching a few 1960's documentaries on the history channel at a young age. After hearing about Ken Kesey, the Acid Tests and Woodstock I began researching deeper into the counterculture. Hearing about the Merry Pranksters and the Furthur bus along with the great music and art really got me motivated to learn more. The main thing that kept my interest was the psychedelics (and of course the Grateful Dead). I began studying more, reading about chemists like Albert Hoffman and Alexander Shulgin. This lead me to purchasing TiHKAL and getting very enthralled in the entire psychoactive drug world, specifically for medicinal purposes. (I hope to learn much more about the chemistry is psychoactive drugs as well as some extraction technique) I learned how much of what i was taught as a child was untrue and backed by no evidence. Drugs DID have a positive side. I found companies like MAPS and realised that people were doing REAL research and this was actually a slowly growing field. Of course i eventually tried some substances myself which only deepened my interest. It started with LSD, then Mushrooms, maybe a few things in between, but eventually i got to DMT. My research led me to wonderful sites such as The DMT Nexus and i began to see a subculture of people who were interested in the same things as me and frequently had similar opinions as me. A few experiences and lots of research later i decided i needed to join the forum and learn as much as possible and eventually teach what I can. I know I have lot to learn and cant wait to continue this journey deeper into the world of entheogens! I hope to first learn as much as i can about the science of these drugs and eventually contribute to this forum and research how they can be used as tool is modern day medicine. Any questions for me? Thanks for taking the time to read and thanks for the welcome! -Leithen “How long will this last, this delicious feeling of being alive, of having penetrated the veil which hides beauty and the wonders of celestial vistas? It doesn't matter, as there can be nothing but gratitude for even a glimpse of what exists for those who can become open to it.” ― Alexander Shulgin, Pihkal: A Chemical Love Story

Welcome! Learning the chemistry/science behind the extraction process is a wonderful goal to have! Some people jump right in without the proper mindset and end up confused, lost or sometimes they accidently hurt themselves! Preparation and thorough research is definitely a must! But it seems that you know this already! Have you tried your hand at extracting anything yet? If not, there are many different and various extraction techniques available right here at your fingertips! Be sure to look around and browse for a while and feel free to ask questions! Most of the people at the Nexus are more than willing to help someone out when needed! Best of luck to you and may you find everything you are seeking here! PEACE -The Grateful One- New to The Nexus? Leithen, Welcome to the Nexus, ![Very happy](/forum/images/emoticons/grin.png) . Thank you for taking the time to write up and submit a well thought out introduction essay - I very much enjoyed reading it. You sound like you are on a good path. There is a lot to read/see/learn here, but sounds like you have that well in hand too. I applaud you for giving thought to doing your own extraction. It is so empowering. Not only do you get a decent amount of material to work with but you know how it was extracted - what was done to it, when and why. And you can make it as clean as you want it to be. Keep up the good work, ![Very happy](/forum/images/emoticons/grin.png) . Again, welcome to the Nexus. P.S.: I met my husband at a Grateful Dead concert ![Big grin](/forum/images/emoticons/biggrin.png) . "But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."-Rick Doblin, Ph.D. MAPS President, MAPS Bulletin Vol. XX, No. 1, pg. 2Hyperspace LOVES YOU

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I am so excited to move forward in my education. This site seems to be an extremely valuable tool!. Very glad I was able to join! Also your husband, Pandora, must be a great guy. And you as well! I find your early introduction to psychedelic counterculture fascinating! I think The Nexus will be a great place for you to learn and discuss! In addition to DMT, it is also informative about the chemistry and extraction of other psychedelics which I think you'll appreciate. Welcome to the Nexus!

You have already contributed by writing your intro essay! ![Smile](/forum/images/emoticons/smile.png) Another way is to participate in the welcome area discussions that interest you and writing a trip report if you feel inclined to do so! (I want to do this too as I haven't written any trip reports here yet ![Embarrased](/forum/images/emoticons/blush.png) )
