Hello all! this is my first post but I will do the introduction once I have more time. was just wondering if anybody knows about any kind of reaction between 5-HTP and DMT? I take 5-HTP daily for depression(they gave me all kinds of antidepressants when I was a kid but I hated all of them) and it definitely helps me. I take it right after I eat which is usually in the afternoon. I smoked a small amount of DMT (looked like 30mg) 3-4 hours after I'd ingested 200mg 5-HTP and the effects were clearly blunted and also quite different than usual. This could've happened for a number of other reasons but just wanted to know what you guys thought. Any information on the interaction between 5-HTP and DMT would be greatly appreciated.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

I don't have any personal insight but I found this over on the Shroomery. http://www.shroomery.org...wflat.php/Number/9582119

I agree with you about anti depressants. I've either had weird side effects or gotten worse from them and now only take fish oil for it/try to work on what makes me depressed.

Thanks man, haha yeah I came across that too earlier when trying to look it up. The thing is there's a lot of people that have something to say about it on there so there's probably some really accurate info in the mix but so many people are saying conflicting things, I'm just not really sure what to think. I'm hoping maybe to get some info from the people here though, I just trust you guys more I geuss. I know right! I can't believe how much of my life I spent on those. Not to mention the sickening companies behind them. Yeah I think it's definitely a problem that drugs can't solve for you. I actually have been recommended fish oil by several people should give it a try.

Hah okay feelin like an idiot. I decided to read that thread on shroomery again but this time I read further down and it does seem like many more people agree that 5-HTP does dull the DMT effects. OP's description of what happened to them sounds really similar to what happened to me. Intense body stone sensation (not so much load) and I still had a very nice peaceful evening and the trip was much longer than normal but the visuals were very dulled, similar in intensity to eating like a gram of cubensis. So yeah although some people apparently disagree I would say it's true.

You probably want to steer clear of MAOI's on 200mg. Maybe 50mg is fine but serotonin syndrome is risky but people have tried 5htp and maoi for kicks and been fine.

I find that taking 100mg 5htp for a few days before dmt makes it incredibly more euphoric and giggly. As for after that I just felt it stopped working on me but it might have been helping.

I don't find it really makes a difference with depression, I would prefer just oral doses of DMT as an anti-depressant as it releases way more serotonin that any 5htp supplement can.

Oh god okay I'll definitely remember that. So far I've never used DMT with an MAOI but in a week or two I will be, so I think just to be safe I will steer clear of the 5-htp altogether when using DMT whether an MAOI is involved or not. I'm actually beginning to worry that I might have serotonin syndrome right now. Since I smoked my last dose of DMT like 3 or 4 days ago, I have had diarrhea everyday, tremors, mild psychosis, anxiety, paranoia, persisting mild visuals, can barely sleep, headaches, loss of appetite among other things. And that was without any MAOIs but just the DMT and 5-HTP. Do you think this is possible? I'm sure part of it is also that it's been 3 years since I've used any psychedelics. I've never felt so different for so long after only smoking a average sized hit.

Yeah I agree. My recent DMT experience was certainly still very enjoyable even though the visual effects were very dulled . The experience lasted longer and gave me a long lasting bliss that seemed different and more pronounced and longer then any other DMT experience I've had in the past.
I think most people would agree with you that 5-HTP doesn't help them. I really do believe that it helps me with depression though. If I forget to take it I do notice. I'm glad you brought up serotonin syndrome because that's what this feels like. Luckily it's definitely a real light case of it (if that is even what's happening)as I've had it way worse than this a long time ago. I really just wanna come fully back to reality at this point and quit feeling sick.
