First of all i wanna say hi to all community as a new member. I am a newbie in extractions, and need a little help about solvent im gonna use. Before asking for your help, i want to state that place im living is hard for finding chemicals since we have no chemical stores or DIY stores kinda places at all. was hard task for me to get everything together for my first extraction. Now at least i got some idea about STB extraction. So heres my problem about solvents; Before i was buying Zippo brand lighter fluid(125ml which is the only size you can find) which used to contain naphta and as i experienced much cleaner than Ronsons we get here. But now something happened and they dont contain naphta anymore. It was replaced with "Synthetic Isoparaffinic Hydrocarbon". I took few pulls with it and it seems nice as my first yield was clear white powder after freezing method, (If have any info about this hydrocarbon and know any harms or something please inform me). But now i will be going for a 500gr extraction and buying solvent in little tins will be too expensive for me. So i decided to use "thinner". I checked the internet for some brand names existing around my area to see which ones are xylene or toluen but nobody gives out the formula of their products from the net. Only i could find what they call cellulosic thinner mostly contains "95% toluene and 5% white spirit" as some people say, and Synthetic thinners mostly contain "30% aromatic and 70% aliphatic hydrocarbons". I checked the list of aliphatic hydrocarbons but its a very long list so probably i should be trying my chance visiting every paint store to check if any brands have written the full ingredients list which looks hard for my country coz nobody is used to see a young guy reading info from thinner boxes and leaving without buying any product. I dont wanna have unwanted attraction because im living in a very small country and people are very curious about each others life and the drug laws are horrible.

Which one do you think i should be using in my extraction? cellulosic or synthetic thinner? and i know its not a very accurate question but if thinners can contain other ingredients do you think thier percentage can be enough to harm human body or they should be at very low percentages so mostly ok to use any thinner?

I am going to do an "activated charcoal + IPA" cleaning afterwards. Do you think this purification method is enough or do i need any further methods to be sure? i am trying to get hold of some ammonia so i may do 10% ammonia wash but to be honest it doesnt look like i can get any ammonia at the moment. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Lets see if someone else can help you better about the solvents you mention, Im not sure about them...

Maybe try researching into limonene. Best bet is to go to health/natural products kind of stores and read label of cleaning products, or look at the aromatherapy/essential oils section as 'orange oil'. Otherwise, check internet, even in other countries with international shipping. Looking for/ordering limonene shouldnt call any attention, you are just looking for a biodegradable natural cleaning product because you are a conscious person trying to save the world

Notice that the limonene tek needs some adjustments, its not just changing one solvent for the other.. Also, one wont get white crystals, rather a more sticky product (containing more alkaloids than just dmt, such as dmt n-oxide, jungle spice and so on) that is better used by redissolving in alcohol and infusing some herbs with it.

SWIM has moved to another country since last year and also have been having trouble finding propper naphtha/equivalent, but he recently found limonene supplier so will attempt that tek instead. Also, if one does eventually find proper naphtha/similar, one could just make a recrystalization in the limonene-extracted goo and freeze precipitate for separating the pure white crystals.

A friend of mine recommended me.. he is the one who first introduced me dmt by sendin me some... and he is a guy that i trust, he has blown his lab while extracting 10kgs because of naphta vapour touchin to oven flame... and he is the guy to guide me without gettin lost in 100 teks just givin me some gud proportions for an easy STB... and yea he told me im gonna loose a bit of stuff but it will be a cleaner product... since i dont have any plans for selling anything loss doesnt bother me as long as i know im gonna use a much cleaner product... btw is it really useful to use SWIM ? lol everything i say can and will be used against me?

If it were me i would go ahead and look for more stores on the search for vm &p naptha. Hardware store should carry something like this... but if you have looked everywhere. I would go ahead with the 95% toluene and 5 % white spirit. Pour some out to check if it evaporates cleanly and doesn't have a blue or any color tint.

Toluene is non-polar and white spirit is naptha/benzene. But instead of doing the freeze method.Do multiple pulls(over a few days)until you get about 500 ml worth of extracted solvent. Do a sodium carbonate wash and evaporate ur solvent...then when its down to a goo on ur pyrex just put in the fridge of freezer for a week and let the crystals grow.

hmm sounds like a gud idea i should read about recrystalization.. havent read anything about it yet.. coz ive been dealin with small amount... but for big amount it sounds like a gud idea.. thx...

You basically want to stay away from cellulosic or synthetic thinner. They will make life more complicated. The reason is basically because they have toluene and/or xylene. Because of these additives, they will be able to pull loads of stuff, i.e more spice and other alkaloids (which is a good thing) and other crap but you won't be able to freeze-precipitate anything out of them. Eventually you'll have to do some other tricks. The most straightforward is to evaporate the solvent pulls but this will seriously take ages with xylene and toluene.

Synthetic Isoparaffinic Hydrocarbons are fine to use, this is naphtha. And you already had success using this solvent.



Dunno about the activated charcoal+IPA thing. How exactly you're planning to clean your stuff?

And do not bother about the ammonia wash!

I see.. if u say its not gud for freezing then SWIM wont bother using thinners... reason SWIM wanted to do that was the price.. because in SWIM's country they dont sell big bottles of lighter fluid.. 125ml is around 3$ and SWIM needs a lot of them for a big extraction. and thanks a lot for saying solvent SWIM used is naphta he was so curious about it...



And do not bother about the ammonia wash!

for every gram of product around 200mg activated charcoal and 20ml IPA, sit in a warm place jars lid closed for a day, then filter it of and run some more ipa thru the filter and evaporate it...
