so i am going to get my hands on a dinky little supercritical co2 extractor (the "superC" sold by ocolabs), just for a little bit of research and development...

and i was looking at the entourage effect that may exist between terpenoids and cannabinoids..

so i think to myself: "why not use this device (which commonly extracts volatile oils of all kinds, including terpenoids) to extract terpenoids which i can then use to enrich my hash oil?"

where this leads, is relatively obvious: which source(s) is/are best for such enrichment?

my first instinct was to go with lemongrass because of the relatively high myrcene content (especially compared to things like mango) in it's volatile oil. my main concern is the 1.7% of the population allergic to citral (given that this is research and development for a commercial endeavor). so i am hesitant to use lemongrass (perhaps in small amounts, but i think citrus zest and another source of myrcene might be preferable)

the terpenes of great interest to me are myrcene, limonene, linalool, pinene (beta and alpha), and β-caryophyllene. everything else is of tertiary interest to me.

also i am thinking of extracting various dried fruits (blueberries, strawberries, etc) purely to add a nice flavor.

the end goal would be to attempt a crude double-blind study (with a sample-size of only about 20 or so), in which temporary anosmia is induced (still fuzzy on this part, i am thinking some kind of saline nasal spray, or other irritant to catalyze a strong "stuffed nose"Pleased, and then labelled samples of enriched, and non-enriched oils are sampled for subjective potency.

obviously not the most rigorous experiment, i know, but it at least gives me some idea as to whether this entourage effect is noticeable, or worth the effort

Myrcene is where it's at, I can confirm its cannabinoid modulating effects.

I got some pure myrcene online, just a whiff of it and it will double the effects of any buzz you have, but does not have any effects if you're sober. I have some bud (master kush) that seems rather weak and doesn't have much myrcene, and am going to soon try adding a drop of it to the bud before vaping to see how strong the effect really is.

I'm not sure if CO2 will be the best way to completely extract terpenes, though I'm no expert on the subject. I have seen water-based extractions before that use steam distillation, such as this one. BcBubbleman has a lot of great info on his Hash Church show.
