How to Post Like a Pro

There are two ways to add formatting to your posts: You can type the formatting tags as you go, or you can use the buttons in the editor.

Note: You can only use the editor when you hit "New Topic" (to post a new thread) or "Post Reply" (to reply in an existing thread). If you press "Quick Reply", you just get a text box with no editor. You can still type in the tags you want to use, there just aren't any handy buttons to push for them.

Let's go through the main formatting options, one at a time.

Bold text
The tag for bold text is [b][/b]. So typing [b]Check out these bold flavors![/b] displays as Check out these bold flavors!. When using the editor, just click-and-drag to select the text you want in bold, then press the button.

Italic text
The tag for italic text is [i][/i]. So typing [i]Do Italians always type in italics?[/i] displays as Do Italians always type in italics?. When using the editor, just click-and-drag to select the text you want italicized, then press the button.

Underlined text
The tag for underlined text is [u][/u]. So typing [u]I like to underline things[/u] displays as I like to underline things. When using the editor, just click-and-drag to select the text you want in bold, then press the button.

Font Size
The font size tag is [size=#][/size], where "#" can be any whole number from 1 (smallest) to 9 (largest), with 5 being the default size. If you type [size=3]This is pretty small[/size], the forum will display This is pretty small.

Quotations
Often it is helpful to quote all or part of someone else's post so it is clear what you are responding to. The easiest way to do this is to click the "Quote" button at the top of the person's post. This will automatically insert a quote tag with their entire post into the "Post Reply" editor.

The tag for a quote box is [quote][/quote]. If you want the quote to be attributed to someone (so the box says "So-and-so wrote:"), then use [quote=Name][/quote]

Examples
[quote]Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”[/quote] will display:
Quote:
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

[quote=The Raven]Nevermore[/quote] will display:
The Raven wrote:
Nevermore

Images
The image tag is [img][/img]. Just put the image URL in between the tags. For example, [img]https://chat.dmt-nexus.me/Image/substance/bufo_002.png[/img] displays .

If you want to attach an image to the post, and have that image in-line somewhere in the post. That takes a couple extra steps. First, write the post, and hit "Post". Then click "Attach" at the upper right of your post and attach the image. You'll now see the image displayed at the bottom of your post. Copy the image URL to your clipboard (right-click and select "Copy image URL" on most systems), click "Edit" to get back into your post, and put the image url in the [img][/img] tags, then his "Post" one last time and you're done.

Links
The hyperlink tag is [url=address][/url]. It is only necessary if you want to have linked text. An ordinary URL will automatically be converted to a link.

When you type: http://troutsnotes.com/trouts-notes-library/
The forum displays: http://troutsnotes.com/trouts-notes-library/

When you type: Check out this cool stuff on [url=http://troutsnotes.com/trouts-notes-library/]Trout's Notes Library[/url]
The forum displays: Check out this cool stuff on Trout's Notes Library

Lists
The list tag is [list][/list]. Within the list, each item is preceded by a [*] tag. For example:

[list][*]Organic
[*]Non GMO
[*]Gluten free[/list]

Displays:
  • Organic
  • Non GMO
  • Gluten free

Those are pretty much the basics. Here are a few more tags you can try playing around with:
[color][/color]
[left][/left]
[center][/center]
[right][/right]
[code][/code]
