I recently came down with a terrible cough and have been using promethazine (~12.5-25mg daily) for the past 3 days. I am also planning to take LSD this weekend and was wondering what, if any, interactions may take place between these two compounds. I am aware that promethazine is a weak antipsychotic with approximately 10% the potency of Chlorpheniramine and is an antagonist at the 5-HT2A, 5-HT2C, D2 and alpha-1 adrenergic receptors. Given this information, I would think that promethazine would mitigate and/or dull the effects of the acid, but I may be wrong. I was wondering if anyone has experience with taking these two compounds together and, if so, what were the effects? How did the addition of promethazine alter the effects of LSD?

If promethazine is not recommended for use with LSD, how long should it take for the antagonistic effects of promethazine to stop? I understand that promethazine has a half life of 16-19 hours but idk if the duration of its antagonistic effects are directly correlated with its half life.

As a side note, I was wondering if you have combined promethazine with any other psychedelics, and if so, what interactions did you notice? If my hunch is true, then promethazine's antipsychotic and antagonistic properties at serotonin and dopamine D2 receptors would mitigate the effects of psychedelics in general.

Thank you for your time and advice,

AFAIK, promethazine is an anti nausea medication. It does have a potentiating effect when used with opiates or benzodiazapines. I'm no pharmacologist, and in my extremely limited knowledge base, don't really know the cause for this, I guess it has something to do with it affecting the absorption rate .

I have no idea whether it would have any effect on tryptamines, either potentiating or diminishing the effects, I'm just pointing out that it can have interactions with other substances.

null24, I am well aware of the interactions between promethazine and depressants. I was only wondering if its antagonistic effects at serotonin receptors would inhibit LSD, and if so, how long should I wait after my final dose before I would be able to enjoy LSD to its full extent.
