Just for fun...

I remember Kermit singing this song on a muppets show or movie when I was kid. The other day, my son was watching Yo Gabba Gabba and Paul Williams, the man who wrote it, came on and performed it himself with a bunch of cool special effects and I was glad to be sitting there.

Because of my recent spice trip I thought again about the lyrics and, if you can put up with a little hokey kid stuff, even the visuals are great. Obviously, entheogenics can teach us a bit about The Rainbow Connection. If you have a cuteness allergy, you may want to refrain.

Apparently, it's on his album, "I'm Going to Go Back There Someday" - which carried a little meaning for me as well, though maybe out of context.

LOLOLOL! I think it is mainly a theme for children, lovers and seekers. Something that is seldom seen and never touched. Beautiful but ephemeral. Comes with sun after the storm. So much delicious symbolism. How could poets and singers resist?
"But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."

Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Rest in peace, IZ

A touching celebration of the spreading of his ashes at the end.

I always find myself tearing up when I sing along to this video. I'm sensitive like that.
Fear, belief, love phenomena that determined the course of our lives. These forces begin long before we are born and continue after we perish. We cross and recross our old paths like figure skaters; our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb, we are bound to others. Past and present. And by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.

Awesome! I was hoping the Weezer version was going to be like this, but it's the most mawkish of all of them. I'm glad some people liked this post and understood where I'm coming from. I kinda worried about cheesing the place out.

How has no one posted this? This is one of the main reasons why I'm such an avid reader, plus RAINBOWS!

Yeah, that's awesome. Brings back little kid memories. Have you seen the parody of the Reading Rainbow theme that Lavar Burton made with Funny or Die?!?!?!

I wonder how it came to be called a rainbow instead of a lightbow..

And, Really good post to spur this discussion. At first I saw the video and was like 'naw' just added my post.. then I went back and watched.. felt transformed? Or something, but there is definitely messages encoded in that video.. nice find, I see it how you do as well! You've got to wonder why people would go into the business of selecting what material will be broadcast to children to help formulate their opinion of the collective shared reality.. Smile
