So today marked my first extraction done and taken out of the freezer. For this extraction I used Cybs' Hybrid ATB Salt Tek I was going to use Q21Q21's vinegar/lime tek, but the picking lime won't be here for a couple more days and I just didn't feel like waiting since I had the time to do the extract yesterday.

I used 50g MHRB, not quite powdered, but close.



The acidifying, salting, and basifying steps all went very smoothly. One thing I realized afterwards was that I had the baths probably way too hot and didn't let them cool down enough. The water wasn't boiling, or even steaming in the pot, but I think it was probably a bit too hot from what I've read since.



The pulls went ok, but as would be expected I had a bit of a struggle with siphoning off the naphtha. I might have to figure out some way to practice it. Maybe some oil and water?

For the freeze precipitation I used some short, straight-sided mason jars. I chose these because I don't have a freezer I can dedicate to this so I couldn't risk naphtha contaminating the food. As it was I also put the mason jars into two ziplok freezer bags just to be sure.



I haven't scraped the jars yet, but it looks like a very meager yield. The crystals are a yellowish-white and there aren't exactly a huge amount of them. Due to the lighting, that picture makes them look far more yellow than they actually are. I also notice there is an oily layer where the top of the naphtha layer would have been.



After decanting the naphtha, I put it into some larger, flat pyrex dishes and put it back into the freezer. I think that I had too much naphtha in each jar? If it doesn't precip anymore crystals that's fine. I'll just chalk it up to the learning experience.

In the next couple days I'll try the vinegar/lime tek, making sure to do warm water baths, not hot and use the bigger dishes from the start.



Edit: Scraped the jars and total yield was .43g from 50g MHRB. There are some waxier, more yellowed bits, but there were also some nice white, fluffy crystals in there as well.

To use a McKenna turn of phrase, my "knees are definitely knocking" since not only is this my first extraction, but this will be my first step into the spicy hyperspace.
