I honestly agree with the quote. To me enlightenment is all about the realization that we have no inherent enduring self-nature. So to remove all these things in my mind that I define as "me" is indeed a destructive process by definition. Destructive tends to be generally negatively connotative, so maybe that's why it don't sit well with you?
I would prefer to just sit, just eat, and just be without having to pass judgement on each action I take as good bad or indifferent. "I" don't exist in reality.
