Awhile back I was reading a topic post discussing the differences between using steel wool vs. copper wool vs. ceramic wool in homemade vaporizers, unfortunately, I could not find it in the search.

I believe the consensus on this forum is that the GlassVG is the best vaporizer for exploring your brain efficiently... However I remember reading that the ceramic plate is hard to find in house hold items.

I was in my chem lab a few weeks ago and saw a different set of wire gauze than we normally use for holding beakers and such over a bunsen burner. The other type of gauze had a ceramic material for diffusing the direct heat of the burner ( I guess ).

My question is, for those of you who have experience with either the Machine or GVG or Eye-dropper pipes, what do you think is the best material to use? and do you think these wire gauzes could be used more effectively/efficiently than steel wool or copper?

Personally, I prefer ceramic to steel/copper. But for a homemade vaporizer, the ceramic is obviously much more difficult to mold and manipulate. It is important to have the heat diffusing mechanism attached in such a way that air cannot go around it, which is easily accomplished with stainless steel/copper mesh a la The Machine.

In my experience testing a very wide range of different vaporizers for vaporizing DMT, The Machine is a close second to the GVG in terms of efficiency and efficacy.

Note: at one point I tried relentlessly to customize ceramic flavor discs to fit in The Machine. They do not respond well to customization, as they simply crumble when one tries to grind them down to size.
