Hi everyone, a friend of mine has a problem with an Acid/Base extraction with DCM. He's from EU, no VM&P Naphta. He can easly find DCM and Hexane on ebay(10€/lt), less easly petroleum and dietyhl ether from a local shop. (20€/lt)
He were extracting with Petroleum Ether with good yeld (0.5 g in freeze precipitation and 0.3 from evap). Acid Base extraction without unfatting.
Then he tryed to use Dichloromethane. It is very cheap and it is not flammable.
He boiled 3 times 100g of MHRB powder in 1lt of acid water totally for 3x2h.
He made acid water using HCl and distilled water.
After boiling he's got 3 lt of water with 100g of MHRB inside. he put this solution in a stainless saucepot keeping the mimosa out from the pot. He boil it untill it has became 0.5lt.
He put the round flask into fridge for 1 night. Then he vacuum filtered it.
He slowly basified the solution with Lye and water untill the colour turn from grey to black.
He extracted the solution with 3x300ml of DCM in a separatory funnel.
He tryed to freeze-prec the first extraction with 300ml DCM, but he's got only some floating crystal that melt at the room temperature.
He evap the 3 pulls togheter and he's got with some yellow/orange oil.
There is a way to clean this oil and freeze preciptate it with some other solvent? what solvent? Hexane?
Is this oily spice good to make changa? what herbs he can use?
