I am hoping that I can use RAW chocolate as a MAOI....does anyone have any data on this or other more effective, safe or easily accessible MAOIs?

I have been informed that Harmalas, a part of Ayahuasca, are (reversible) MAOIs. They are not dangerous by themselves (or in conjunction with DMT, like in Ayahuasca). Can anyone provide a good source, any undesirable effects? preparation techniques?

I am considering Psychotria viridis ( Chacruna ). Does anyone have any good resource or knowledge for preparation?

Also, does Chaga contraindicate with any known MAOIs? I am currently using Chaga mushroom tea.

Can anyone tell me if Monoamine Oxidase is present in large quantities in both Ayahuasca and Psychotria viridis ( Chacruna ) and how effective MAOIs are at actually inhibiting Monoamine Oxidase. Or if there are specific techniques to ensure suitable uptake of the MAOI in the brain and over what periods the MAOI is required for differing amounts/strengths of DMT sources.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that the MAOIs are contained in the B. caapi. This is somewhat psychoactive on it's own but in conjunction with DMT containing roots it slows the metabolism of DMT (it's hardly active orally because it breaks down faster than it can get to your brain).

I DO know that you can purchase raw B. caapi and even it's harmaline extract off of eBay. It isn't illegal in any way.

Be careful with MAOIs, though. They can have bad counter reactions with other medicines.

Raw chocolate is not gonna do the trick. Harmalas are the most ideal, not only because they are reversible, and therefore short acting, but seem to have a rather unique interaction with DMT as compared with other MAOi.

You can look into Manske for harmala extraction from syrian rue. Undesirable effects from harmalas include but are not limited to ataxia, dizziness, nausea and general fatigue. While they can be worth using for the higher plateaus they allow one to reach for extended durations (and with a different quality - for those who like that), they do nevertheless carry the risks of these uncomfortable symptoms which vary from user to user and tend to correlate to dosage.

Check the stickied "all about aya" thread in the ayahuasca subforum.

You don't mean changa do you. I don't know what Chaga is, but if you're referring to changa then it has harmalas in it by definition.

There are no MAO in either ayahuasca or chacruna that I know of, and MAOi is only in caapi, not chacruna. The harmalas are far and away the most ideal MAOi for the DMT experience. Syrian rue or caapi are the way to go, and creating preparations of them or doing harmala extractions is what you'd be doing. Pursuing other avenues of MAO inhibition is a waste of time IMO, so I would start focusing on your harmala source more than alternatives to harmalas for MAO inhibition.
