I'm currently planning a trip to Peru primarily for an Ayahuasca ceremony but I also want to explore as much as I can while I'm there.

I started looking into vaccinations and immediately thought about drug interactions with Ayahuasca.

Being that I couldn't find much online; I'm wondering whether this is isn't an issue at all. One site did say that you should take vaccinations 'well before' any ceremonies take place as some shamans do not like the idea of having these vaccines in your system.

Are there actually any dangers associated with vaccines or should I be avoiding vaccines altogether and taking a homeopathy approach?

I don't want to get dingo fever, but I also don't want to have convulsating-hypertensious-muscle brain spasms from the vaccines + maoi interationg.

Could anyone shine some light on this?

How long do you have before the trip? What vaccines are you considering taking? Did you look up visa or entry requirements, and what are the specific vaccines that are necessary?

I don't Think that the vaccine is going to be a problem. Vaccines contains a small amount of a "weak" pathogen or some other antigen (antigen = chemical that the pathogen make) and a pharmaceutic adjuvant in a liquid solution.

I don't Think either of these are likely to cause problems with MAOI but the only way to be absolutly certain is if you find out what vaccines you are going to take and what Chemicals they contain.

I'm planning to go around April.

It looks like the diseases I should be most cautious about are yellow fever, rabies, malaria and dengue fever.

There's also Hepatitis A,B, Typhoid,measles/mumps/rubella, diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus and poliovirus.

I've just spoken to a friend who lives there and he says yellow fever and hepatitis are the ones to look out for.

As far as I know from what I've read there are no obligations by Peruvian immigration for anyone to have vaccinations to enter the country. A visa is only required if you are staying longer than 90 days.

I think it's probably best to speak to a doctor and see what they think is neccessary, then find out what's in the vaccines I would possibly be taking, and then find out whether or not they have any adverse effects on interaction with an maoi. Or I could ask my doctor ?

EDIT* Sorry bluesky I posted that before I saw your post, it's now definitely what I'm going to do to be 100% safe
