Namaste my fellow Nexians,
As we begin to accumulate the solvents and glassware needed for our first round of extraction we realized there was something we could work on right now for practice in advance as we already have the solvent for it, Recrystallization.
Since I did not document the whole thing I will summarize and provide pictures tonight. We had approximately 510mg of spice left that we were gifted. It was referred to us as "first pull stb honey spice from mhrb, with tastes of honey and flowers, not recrystallized," and I had absolutely no reason to distrust the one who gifted it. I am however, a consummate geek who likes to dabble in experimentation and could not help but look at that spice when we grabbed our heptane and wonder, "how much pure crystal is in there?"
So, we took the whole 510 mg and dissolved it into 30ml of heated heptane (that had been heated by using 15 minutes in a boiling water bath allowing the gas out occasionally), water was reduced to 150 degrees with ice and dissolved solution was bathed (3/4 submersion) until it reached room temperature and oil separation was seen. Solvent was then separated from the yellow orange oil and placed in a container. At this point I nearly bungled. I put the goo in the freezer and left the solvent to sit out all night, thankfully covered. When I awoke I checked the freezer to find no crystals.
Chemistry class kicked in, and I immediately realized that the solvent had held the clear dmt and the oil was the refuse. I proceeded to check the solvent jar, and sure enough; there were indeed crystals all across it's bottom. Popped it into the freezer satisfied that further freeze precipitation will yield more of what I am seeking from the solvent. My estimate looking at the amount of perfect glass butterflies on the bottom of my jar is that my 510 mg of first pull is more like 150-200mg of pure. Looking forward to tomorrow after class that is for certain.
Pictures to come later just before I start to dry the final yield.
Cheers.

"My advice to people today is as follows: if you take the game of life seriously, if you take your nervous system seriously, if you take your sense organs seriously, if you take the energy process seriously, you must turn on, tune in, and drop out."
"Drop Out--detach yourself from the external social drama which is as dehydrated and ersatz as TV. Turn On--find a sacrament which returns you to the temple of God, your own body. Go out of your mind. Get high. Tune In--be reborn. Drop back in to express it. Start a new sequence of behavior that reflects your vision." -Timothy Leary
