The name says it all.
Would dark (85%+) chocolate be an acceptable b. caapi substitute for ayahuasca? I've heard that cocoa contains a short-acting MAOI. I'd rather not waste plant product on an experiment though.

Somebody has to be the first person to do that experiment. If it hasn't already been done, then it might as well be you if you're interested, and it's not a waste as long as you learn something from it. Cocoa may contain an MAOI, but I'd be suspicious of how much actual cocoa is contained in commercial chocolates. My understanding is that MAOIs usually have their own perceptual effects, so if you don't get that from eating a lot of the chocolate by itself, perhaps that indicates that the MAOI content is too low.

Anyways, it will be cool if it works.
Every day I am thankful that I was introduced to psychedelic drugs.

I don't believe chocolate or even cacao beans/nibs are a strong enough MAOI to activate DMT.

I say this because I use cacao nibs and 100% cacao baking chocolate to make my mushroom chocolates, there is certainly a synergy there and the combination is wonderful; but it's nothing at all like the effects when you mix harmalas with psilocybin. Much more a synergy than any kind of poteniation.

Perhaps it would work with an extremely large dose of raw cacao, but I am still inclined to doubt it.

I have however many times considered trying pharma chocolates with extracted harmalas and DMT. I think the chocolate would do a good job of masking the taste and you could fit a couple hundred mg of powder in a square of chocolate pretty easy. I do worry about unpleasant interactions between the chocolate and the harmalas, which is why thus far I haven't yet tried it.

I agree with this.

Many rumors about the use of cacao as MAOI may have to do with Jonathan Ott's speculations around the reports of aztecs ingesting mushrooms with cacao. IIRC, he suggested that cacao could have acted as MAO inhibitor. But I've seen no reports of serious MAOI properties in cacao.

And besides, what we understand as chocolate may have very little to do with the psycho-active beverage prepared by the aztecs, specially with the green beans.

But anyways it masks the taste of mushrooms quite well, reason enough to keep some at hand if you want to take mushrooms.

I don't find any real advantage to adding chocolate, I've never tried with DMT but can tell you it's effect on shrooms is minimal.

To get any real noticeable effect you need to use something like xocoatl or other extremely dark chocolate.

Well what you have is likely not chocolate if it has no effect..its probly minimal ammounts of refined cacao with milk and sugar etc.

WIth real cacao beans there certainly is a pronounced effect, just that I don't think its a strong maoi or anything like that..it's an empathic stimulation and it can synergise strongly with tryptamines but I don't think it will activate oral DMT.
