One of the groundbreaking discoveries in string theory of recent years is known as the AdS/CFT correspondence or Maldacena Duality.

It implies that an N+1 dimensional space theory of the universe can be translated into an identical N dimensional space using a certain mathematical operation. This then implies that the time evolution of 3D volumes as the universe ages, can be also seen as a movie of 2D entities. If the universe is continuous in its nature then this would be fluidlike but if it is discrete then it would essentially be made of pixels.

Taking in the observation of the universe as an ever-expanding spiralling thing, a chessboard that expands geometrically with each new move that is played, choice that is chosen, we might find that our projection on the cosmic horizon is a cellular automaton:

Viewing Indra's Net through this would be intriguing to say the least. There are a few music programs which use cellular automata to play sound (typically a bunch of blocks you can turn on or off). What do you guys think? If this were the case, what would it signify?
