Reading about the alkaloids present in Lophophora Williamsii, i found Pellotine quite interesting. It seems to have been produced and sold as a sleeping aid before the main barbiturates came onto the medicine market around 1890 until beginning of 1900. It is supposed to have sedative effects in dosages between 15-30mg . There should be no side-effects in the morning like head aches.
It is present in Williamsii about 15-17% of total alkaloid content. In the Diffusa it can even be 60-80 % of the total alkaloid content.
Could the following procedure work in isolating pellotine (along with anhalonine and lophophorine) ?
- Basify grounded buttons in NaOH solution.
- Extract with d-limonene
- Salt with HCl
- Rebase salt with NaOH.
- Extract with ether.
- Salt with HCl (resulting in alkaloid mixture of mainly Pellotine with some anhalonine and lophophorine)
- Extract basified solution with d-limo again.
- Salt with HCl (for getting out mescaline with anhalamine and anhalonidine)
Which solvent could be used for cleaning up the Pellotine salt?
