I am currently on an antipsychotic, Aripiprazol (Abilify) 5mg. But my psychologist says I can do without. I'd like to know, if I quit now, how long will this medicine stay in my body? When will I be able to do DMT or other psychedelics? Thank you!

As far as how long it will stay in your body and discontinuing, I'm assuming you would taper down, that's something you should ask your doctor.

Why are you taking antipsychotics if you don't mind me asking? I ask this because there is caution to be heeded if there are any issues as far as taking psychadelics. And do you have any experience with DMT or anything of the like?

I have a friend who is a paranoid schitzophrenic, and he quit taking his Abilify about 2 months ago. He progressively got worse and worse until he had an episode that landed him in the local psyche ward for about a week. You need to be extremely careful about stopping this medication. Be sure to let those close to you know that you are quitting it, and that your behavior might be a bit off.

As far as psychadelics, I am with Anrchy. Why exactly are you taking it? What is your diagnosis, and are psychadelics something you feel like you should be doing?

Yes I've done DMT and many other drugs. I have the Abilify because of a psychotic break but my psychologist doesn't see a problem for me with these drugs in my case which is a bit special.

Aripiprazols active metabolite half life is quoted as 94hrs, which assuming you taper off of it, which normally you would need to do, it'll be many weeks ( several months) before you are "clean". Your psych dr. should have let you know that.

If I had a psychotic break, I'd stay well clear of the stuff for a long ,long time.

Why is it many weeks if the half life is only 94 hrs? I taper it off first to 2.5mg but when I quit that how long will it be? On another forum they said it will be about a week till I can do any drugs.

In my case I suffer from PTSD and had a lot of stress leading up to the psychotic break. I've done many drugs before and never had a problem with them.

I understand, but not after the psychotic break, right?
I believe you should be really careful doing drugs again after that, and at least have some1 babysit you while you blast of with psychedelics the few first times...

Trust me, unfortunatly i've seen the long term effects and fall of a very dear and close person because of doing drugs after having mental problems.

I second this. It's nothing personal against you, this is something that you need to be cautious about. Shrooms for example, can amplify an existing condition. Just a short term PTSD, like a very hard breakup with a loved one, can come back rushing in your face if you haven't resolved these issues.

I have a friend with PTSD and I made a mistake and was slightly pushing him to dose even after he had declared that he wasn't sure if he was ready. I made a mistake and regret it, I felt stupid afterwards and have since adjusted how I go about dosing people. Luckily I was going by my standard of low dose with new people, I always do this, but he got up in the middle of it upset and left.

Later on he came over to apologize for being rude and said he had to get out cause "demons from my past came back to haunt me" were his exact words. I will never be dosing someone that is interested at all if they have any kind of past or present psychological issues.

Just for insight... I dosed a few hours later because I was distraught about what I had done. As soon as I peaked I realized something is wrong. They were holding me back and they showed me that this was a personal experience and that I am not to dose anyone atleast for a long time, because I had broken the rules. This was a very emotional experience and left me feeling like I didn't deserve to use DMT any longer.

I learned my lesson and they have let me back in.

A 94 hr half life is quite long, 4 days to clear peak plasma levels by 50%, then another 4 days to reduce that by half and so on. but that's not the issue really. Antipyschotics require very careful tapering down. Often that takes several weeks if not months, Abilify might be an exception if you were only on it for a short while. Best listen to your Dr. and not what some "dudes" suggest you do on an internet forum. But hey, it's your call at the end of the day!
