Hi all, SWIM was wondering if anyone knows a good way to separate Mescaline HCl from NaCl. SWIM recently did an extraction and after washing my end product in anhydrous acetone/isopropanol it still tastes a bit salty (indicative of sodium chloride contaminate). Obviously NaCl is not active and won't alter the quality of the trip, but still I'd like to be able to dose pure mescaline as accurately as possible.

SWIM knows most of the non-mescaline alkaloids can be removed via anhydrous acetone/isopropanol, but this method won't remove any NaCl contamination since NaCl is insoluble in both.

SWIM has searched around trying to find a method but no luck. Someone in a previous thread suggested that methanol could be used to dissolve the mescaline and leave behind the salt, but this doesn't make sense since salt is soluble in methanol (at 15g/L).

If anyone has a good method to separate Mescaline HCl from NaCl, it would be greatly appreciated.

so why not a binary mixture of acetone and water, freeze precipitation?

Interesting, could you elaborate a bit more? Would the mescaline or the NaCl precipitate out? and what ratio of acetone and water would you suggest?
