My finding Syrian Rue comes with a mystical back story. One of the first things I saw when I began having astral projections was this female goddess figure. (Being raised plain 'ol Christian I was confused.) She seemed middle eastern, and showed me a symbol of a hand, the hand had a symbol in the palm like a moon or star. This was all very new to me so in my wonderment I didn't realize to note small details like that. She was very loving and her energy was just wonderful.

After it was all over, I flew to my computer to run a search for this hand symbol and found it. I wanted very very badly to know who this goddess was, but came up empty. Dead end. The best research out there says NO ONE knows the origins of the Hamsa Hand, because it is so old it was before the times of Judaism or Islam.

It is lost to antiquity. I was disappoint.

But it was not over yet. Knowing from my research this symbol was associated with the evil eyes I began looking up evil eye rituals. There I came across Syrian Rue.

And there was my answer. Syrian Rue is associated with a super-ancient Goddess. It is burned during her festival.

"In the ancient Zoroastrian calendar, the month of Esfand (beginning around February 19) marked the feast of Spendarmat, which was dedicated to the female archangel of earthly and motherly protection, Spenta Armaiti, whose name signifies "Holy Devotion" or "Holy Love." Among modern Iranians, this festival, known as the Esfandgan Feast, is still held on Spandarmaz Day in the month Esfand, the last month of the Iranian calendar. It is a celebration of womankind, and particularly commemorates the care, kindness, and self-sacrifices of motherhood."

Spendarmat - the Female Archangel of earthly motherly protection! I knew her energy was very soft and feminine. This plant is used primarily for the protection of children and babies from the evil eye.

I burned the Rue and said the little prayer that goes with it. Found myself unexpectedly stoned. I felt it enter my lungs and take effect. I did a little more digging and found out that this stuff can be smoked or made into a tea. I really didn't expect to get high from it.

Basically, I feel like this goddess wants to reach me for some reason, and if I take it as a tea, maybe I can reach back to her.

So my plans are to start out slow with a low dose. Crush up maybe 30 seeds, put them into a bag of chamomile tea to make the taste more palatable, simmer in lemon water to extract it for 10-20 minutes and drink with honey. (I already checked that the chamomile and honey are safe with a MAOI)

Do you think that'll do it?

It depends on why do you want to ingest Syrian Rue. Of course it is good to start super-low if you are super-sensitive to these substances... but I agree with what Christian suggested:

I have no scale. But looked up about how many seeds are in an oz. I have plans to get a scale though. I'm also going to try and grow this plant.

Have a silly question. When it say to simmer it, pour that water off, simmer another pot, then add all the water together and simmer it down again, why not just keep adding more water to the same pot? Wouldn't that be the same thing? Are you doing it just to check the color to make sure you got it all out completely?

well the point is to saturate the water, then reduce it. if you added more water to that, it would just saturate the new water, which wouldn't leave as much room to absorb more alkaloids as fresh water would.

it is just more efficient and requires a lot less water than re-adding water to the same boil.

but you can add the first 2 brews to the last one if you want.

I made an extremely weak amount, maybe half a dose and didn't feel any effects at all. I'm just nervous and don't feel I should do it while alone in my house. Don't like the idea of trying new substances, especially a self-made one I am testing out, all by myself.

May have to wait before I give this another go.
